Pickpockets on bath bus

Look out for this couple on bat bus traveling between Jomtien and Pattaya:
A poorly dressed and fairly runned down ladyboy (usually appearing in short trousers (Thai meaning = long trousers) and medium sized hair with several hair clips, accomplished and a better looking Thai women wearing a dress.

This couple usually stands in Jomtien near Bamboo bar checking busses with mostly older foreigners turning from Jomtien Beach road towards Pattaya. There are only interested in bath busses with several passengers.

The ladyboy picks pockets from next sitting passengers and passes there stolen property to the accomplice - or in case the theft is noticed, the goods drops to the floor. I never noticed the women stealing. They usually leave bath bus together just close to Bali Hai or sometimes near VC Hotel and turning the same route back.

I see this couple for several years now using the same trick. Both know that I know there tricks and as soon as they are spotting me, both are leave the bath bus quickly тАУ just hopping onto the next one.

Just watch out for this tricky pair and talk openly about them as soon as you notice them. It seams that the police is well aware of this action but cannot do much since in case of the ladyboy is getting snapped, the Thai women will testify false.

Passengers do usually not recognize that this couple is working hand in hand since they do not talk much together. I never noticed them exchanging any words.

Really, if you're a white guy, and traveling to a poorer country, then it's kinda common sense someone is going to eye you up. Use a bit of common sense rules, and you're fine.

I have a couple of pairs of shorts which have velcro pocket fasteners. I don't think it's possible to unsnap velcro either quietly or with little or no detectable pressure. I think my front zipper would be far easier.

Would this be the pair, where the actual pickpocket has an extremely large white purse/bag?

If so, I have come across them on 2 occasions. One time with my former boss and her husband, while I actually watched them attempt to pick his pockets. I just spoke loudly to my boss, that these were notorious pickpockets and they were trying to get a hand in a pocket.

They use the roads they know very well, with each pothole that is driven over, they ease their way closer into range to strike at their target. I believe the baht bus drivers are in on this, as when they are found out, they press the button to get off immediately and walk away from the baht bus rather quickly. I know a lot of baht bus drivers, and they would literally chase someone down a few blocks to get the money for the fare, if someone attempted to walk away from them.

Whenever on a baht bus, I have an external cell phone pouch, I actually take my phone out and hold it in my hands, while leaning my arms against my pockets, almost looking like I am just lounging in the baht bus, whenever I am concerned.

You run a transport company! What are you doing on a baht bus?

Every so often I take a week to come over to Pattaya and visit with friends. My motorbike stays in BKK, and if my wife is out driving customers, then I'll hop a baht bus.

Same goes for if I found a really good parking spot on a street that I didn't want to give up for the day lol.

I only took a baht bus twice the last time i was in pattaya. Once, i couldn't find a baht bus coming back in the direction i was heading, so just hoofed it back to my hotel. It seemed to have been a lot less baht buses in certain areas of pattaya that were overflowing with them before.
