X-ray in either its present or previous location has always been one of my favourite haunts in Pattaya

There was a time when you had to be there at 1am in order to get a decent table (near the door to watch the eye candy and for a quick exit in case of fire!)arrival at 1.30 usually menat being turned away to one of teh less popular spots

Anyone been to x-ray recently? If so how is business there?

With the demise of Dude and Body language and the opening of NAB and Dave Man Club it would seem that we are back to 3 late night gay spots in Pattaya...

I am told that NAB are very strict on their door policy (20+) but that the Coyotes are still not as good looking as those of x-ray...

I believe they've canceled the over 60's tea dances.

What are the discos in Pattaya like compared to Bangkok? Compared to DJ, or GOD for example?... Are they worth going to? What are the Thai boys like there?... Fun?

July 28th, 2009, 10:17
They are OK if you avoid tripping over the old farang paying the tab.

I'd say the music is much better at G.O.D. and DJ Station than anywhere I went in Pattaya...they both play more circuit party music. I preferred the venues in Pattaya overall though as they were easier to navigate around. The nights I've been to DJ, it was wall to wall to wall people, it took patience, persistence and elbows to get anywhere. Also, that place will be a nightmare to get out in an emergency.

...and earplugs. LOL.

coincidentally, i was at G-Star last nite and noticed quite a few of the young guys wearing earplugs, one guy even had bits of the paper napkins stuffed in his ears

I went to X Ray club and NAB Man Club during my recent visit to Pattaya. X Ray does have better looking coyote dancers and a better show but it has lost many of it's customers because they have moved to the NAB club which is currently the most popular place. NAB is a larger, more modern venue and upstairs has private areas with sofas available for an extra 1000 baht to have drinks and watch the show.

X Ray is trying to regain customers and imported a fuck show for one night from one of the Soi Twilight bars. It did nothing for me as I find those shows very tedious. The music is very loud at both clubs and they stay open till 5 or 6 am depending on the size of the crowd. If you take some friends with you to the Pattaya clubs you will have a fun night out. The eye candy of the coyote dancers is worth the visit alone, there are some hot looking guys, especially at X Ray.

A similar club in the farang area of Bangkok would be great but the late opening hours are a problem there. Club 9 in Soi 4 would be a perfect venue. I have been to some Thai disco/clubs in Bangkok like ICK who have coyote dancers but they usually close about 3 am at the latest. You really need to go with some Thai friends as you will probably be the only farang there.

Which clubs have a dedicated dance floor or room for dancing? The last 2 if been to there has only been enough room to sway your hips at the table.

A different, difficult-to-get license is required to have a dedicated dance floor or room for dancing. That is why it is absent from many such locations.

Also, dancing at your table is Thai style. Dancing on a formal dance floor is western style.

I'd debate that it has anything to do with Thai/Western. It has evolved because of the licensing issue -- nothing more.

NAB has taken most of the X Ray customers from my observation when I visited both places in Pattaya recently. NAB was full on the three ocassions that I was taken there by my Thai friends. The Thais are fickle and they were not interested in X Ray anymore and they have not even heard of the Dave Man Club which I thought was quite a good place on my last visit.

X Ray had the hottest coyote dancers so your bf must be a stunner and he would fit in well at the NAB club.

NAB also need to be careful as there shows deteriorated each time I visited. Between 1am and 2 am the music stopped and they had those ugly, old transvestites taking over the place with their bs and trying to con some tips from the crowd.

Keep the music playing, the coyotes on display and the shows to a few dance/lip sync numbers and the punters will be happy. Otherwise they will move on to the next new place.

Thanks a lot to martin911 and aussie_ for their updates on X-ray
Very sad to hear that it is closing down, I guess i'll have to find a new local on my next trip

As per aussie_'s message - the Thais seem so fickle when it comes to their late night venues
T&T, Maya, Old X-ray, Body Language, Dude, New x-ray all seem to have come and gone as the place of choice for the "in" crowd....

Its seems that Si Saket is the only late night venue for Gays that has always kept up its business over the last few years
(Before anyone asks its a karaoke/Restaurant "shack" near the junction of South Pattaya road and Soi Kao Bpai Soi Bunkot)

Martin - nice to hear that things are going well with your Coyote guy - i remember you posting a few months ago about taking one off... I'm jealous! :drunken:

Why do old farangs want to take boys to late night discos and karaoke bars. Pesonaly I'd rather give them the money and have a good nights sleep.

Hi TJ5
I'll pass on your compliments to BF when he arrives to Ireland next monday!

Although I certainly wouldn't class him as a stunner... Maybe he was 6.75 years ago when we first met...

But putting up with me for all that time has taken its toll!

...Though I prefer to hit soi 4 and soi 2 for my weekend fun, I have visited NAB a few times in Pattaya and it is a classier place than Xray. The shows are better than Xray and the coyote dancers seem to be in two "teams". The "first" group are the normal, young skinny types that do a great job danicing up a storm...next, (my type) the buffed type that go to the gym to work out. (I never thought the coyote dancers at Xray were that great, but I am not into the skinny, pre-18 look.)

Whenever I went to Xray, I would be escorted to a table way in the back though I was there early (midnight). There were plenty of empty tables up front (but reserved-- these "reserved tables" wouldnt' be occupied until about 2am. Always pissed me off with the poor treatment. At NAB, not all of the tables are reserved and it is easy to get a table of ones choice if you get there before 1am. The staff there is a lot friendlier. NAB seems to be run by someone that knows about customer service and how to run a club. The dancers, model show on the "cat walk" and the lip sync shows are all done with practice --not an amateur outfit at all.

The difference between a place like DJ's and NAB is that at DJ's it is more of a meeting place on the second floor and a real mix of expats, tourists -East meets West. At NAB, it is more of the "in place" for local Thais to go to after work(or visiting BKK on weekends) ; thus, they cluster around their round tables drinking their whiskeys and sodas. There seems to be more and more woman going to NAB.
