I am familiar with the hotels in Bangkok that provide wireless for their guests such as Om Yim & The Plaza.....

....but are there any such hotels in Pattaya that are cheap to moderately priced. I have to do some laptop work everyday during my 10 day vacation and its not convenient to take my laptop to one of the internet shops.

Thanks guys.....

Cafe Royale has Wifi that works very well.

ambiance does to.

Two Guys also has wifi.
I heard Howards didn't (as of Dec 2008).

Every time you make an e-mail enquiry, ask about the wifi & eventually even the laggards may catch up.

Howards now has Wireless

I undersand you need to have a laptop for your work, but most guys would do better to leave thier laptop at home and take advantage of the cheap internet cafe system all over Pattaya. When you go back home and have to give your computer to the customs man, he may decide to really look into what you have on it. Be sure it is clean or you may well be sorry.

Thanks to everyone who replied so quickly. Now I have choices.

Bing, I also appreciate your comments but my work computer is just that, so I will have no problems.
thanks

If I have photos of adults, complete with photos of their ID cards, what can customs do?

Hi Donald---- I don't claim to be an expert on the subject, but even with an ID card you may be questioned about your purpose of visit. This question was asked of me a few weeks ago by a female agent. My reply was, 'vacation'. She then flipped through my passport and said something about me visiting Thailand about once a year. My response, "Yes, Thailand is a beautiful country." She gave me a warm smile and passed my passport back to me and said something about welcome home. A close up of ID card sounds like a good idea, even though it leaks the information about your choice of friends in Thailand. I don't want to scare you, but depending on what officer you get, you can really get grilled on the purpose of your visit and they may really look into your laptop. They can do this whether you have a laptop or not.
Most of the time it is a quick trip thrkough customs, but one time in Atlanta, the officer took most of the things out of my bags but let me go after finding nothing out of the ordinary... Wow was I glad I gave the last of my condoms to the bartentder at the hotel where I was staying. The young man tending the bar thanked me and said he was happy with farnag condoms as farang customers request one once in a while and tip well for them.

So when you tell the officer you went to Thailand for sun, sightseeing & sex with a range of adult prostitutes, some of whom you have photographed, what's the problem?

It's not like you live in Iran ?

Or better yet, leave it in Thailand until you return (I hate lugging those anchors around). My guy practices his typing and letter-writing skills. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

NOT a good idea for any usage that is private/sensitive or financial ..... way too many ways you can be scammed at internet cafes!

You mentioned two hotels in Bangkok. Just like to add that the FREE wi-fi in the room works real well [90% of the time which is about as good as it gets anywhere] at Pinnacle Lumpinee, at about $30 per night on Agoda [with bonus $$] big buffet breakfast, free sauna and steam upstairs by the pool [often with entertainment] it is an alround good deal.

They can do this whether you have a laptop or not.How does that work exactly? They follow you home so they can take a peek inside the laptop you didn't have with you?

I don't know how many dozens (hundreds) of times I have gone through US Customs, and Customs in Europe, Austrlalia, and New Zealand. Never once has anyone shown any interest in my laptop, in spite of the fact that my passport is chock full of Thai stamps.

I don't put it outside the realm of possibility that certain people on certain lists of "persons of interest" might have closer scrutiny.

Otherwise, this is a complete Chicken Little topic.

I take a "Netbook" with me, so it's tiny & weighs just over 1kg which isn't a burden.
The convenience of being able to check news, do share trading & book flights without even leaving my hotel justifies carrying this.

As for customs officers, I've never been stopped by one & have nothing to hide when they do stop me.

For those of you who think differently, fine you don't need wifi or the information contained within this thread & will probably have a good holiday anyway.

Now, any more recommendations out there for hotels with wifi?

Howards have internet in the lobby (not in most rooms), elevator

Sansuk guesthouse has internet everywhere, no elevator

http://jasmine2soi2.com/ (Jomtien Soi 2)have internet everywhere, safetybox is at the reception though, no elevator.
Not gay, but quite friendly.

http://www.orchid-guesthouse-pattaya.com/ have internet and a safetybox in their rooms

The Venue have internet everywhere (at least when there are no power cuts), elevator, safetybox.

In fact the number of guesthouses and small hotels in Pattaya and Bangkok that have free internet in the rooms, is growing fast. Most staff know little about their Wi-Fi, and reliability can be quite pooor. I've occasionaly had to ask them to do a power reset (and point what to unplug).

Most hotels seem to offer Wifi or in-room LAN lines free nowadays.

Ballys Suite Silom has free LAN connections in your room. They are above Burger King on Silom Road and almost literally above DJ Station. Great service too... the staff are really good.

I've read mixed reports about the noise levels there. What is your opinion?

I suppose it's fine either way if you aren't going to sleep until early morning. :)

That's a good point. It never bothered me (and I do have some earlier nights). You can hear a distant thumping but that's about it. It's pretty quiet in the room. it's certainly not like other places I've stayed.

Tui's Place.

Stayed at Room Club last trip, which also has free wifi, and I was able to pick up Tui's next door - and also Avalon.

I DID get the thorough search once. Laptop, camera and video. They told me, up front, they were looking for "illegal pictures" and specifically kiddie porn. Since I have no such thing I had nothing to worry about. It did take a long time though which irritated me (20 min+).
If you have nothing to hide don't be afraid. They are not going to nab you because you are gay or into ladyboys.

If you're a pedo then you're fcuked. I suggest you get another hobby.

Can anybody verify if the Ambiance has Wifi in all their rooms? On their website the only place I saw wifi mentioned was in regards to their suites.

As far as the poster that said why bother and use a net cafe, he must be crazy. If you are staying in a decent hotel and paying good money why would you want to go into a potentially swine flu infested net cafe? I would personally rather enjoy the comfort of my room or at the poolside or whatever. I don't want to also have to pay extra to sit in some slummy cafe.

Why go into somebodies thread and question why they have a request or need you don't share? I don't go into threads about net cafes saying "why on earth would somebody pay for a service they can get free in the privacy of their own room?"

I am not sure how pedos and underage pics got into the subject. I have large files to download that require my laptop to be connected 24/7. (think torrents here) I also like to use it to pick up guys and the privacy of my own room is better suited to surfing on gay.com or gayromeo or whatever.

If I need to use the net when I am out I just get on my iPhone.

Anyway other than that can anybody verify if the Ambiance does have net in all rooms?

So this is what it has come to is it?

You go on holiday, do nothing illegal and return home where although there is nothing to suggest that you did anything illegal you submissively allow your laptop to be examined by some Customs Officer who has absolutely no good reason to do so, likewise your mobile phone, allow yourself to be quizzed on the nature of your journey, maybe where you stayed, who you met..........

Jesus Christ what kind of lily-livered bunch are you guys? If somebody borrowed your lipstick without asking you'd have a fit - but you don't have the guts to speak up for yourself against "the authorities"?

When we have this kind of thinking...............

If you have nothing to hide don't be afraid.

or

I've never been stopped ...& have nothing to hide when they do stop me

..........its no wonder they get away with it.

I despair!

Scrotum guy, why do you post on a thread that is over a year old? Are you that desperate to post continuously.
Just an observation, make of it what you will.

Not at all - it was at the top of the board this afternoon.

Maybe somebody posted and subsequently deleted it or had it deleted. :dontknow:

Dogs lick their own scrotums don't they?

I think you're right. A Spam bot has been digging up really old posts to post their linking crap.
