I agree, MPC is a great buy with Cathay Pacific, I had bought a guitar for my nephew for Christmas. The securiity in Cebu took it away from me claiming the strings could be used or I would have to pay 160 to take it as checked baggage. I gave the guitar to theMaro Polo guy for his son, I could buy a better Guitar for 160 bucks here. Later I was on the plane and in comes the guy he went around security and told me, They may have rules but Marco Polo has no siuch rules and they had already bumped me up to first class without my asking. They seem to want to fill all theri forst class and business seats rather than leave them empty. Liker you said I was a bit late arriving from Manila to fly put of Cebu and once they saw my card I was in the waiting room in 10 minutes with 30 in line behind me.

I've been a member for 4 years now.
Coming from San Francisco I get enough miles in 2 trips to be in the "Silver" level which gets me free access to the lounges.
I can't tell you how wonderful it is after a 13 hour flight to Hong Kong to be able to take a nice liesurely shower and shave before getting on my flight to Bangkok.
Plus - no waiting in queues. I get to use the Business class line for checking in and boarding. And to top it off I can use my miles to upgrade to Business Class every 3 trips.

AND I also get an ocassional freebie upgrade! Like my last trip home last week!

OHHH...to live the life I would like to become accoustomed to...... :flower:

BTW Wes, the Hong Kong lounge access is only 7000 miles. Coming from Manila you might not be able to get into Silver Tier but I've found spending my miles on the lounge is well worth it.

And for the record, I've NEVER been able to get a free ticket even if I've had the miles. Seems the decks are stacked worse than a Vegas casino for that.

Joining the Marco Polo club was well worth it for me. On the way home from BKK to JFK I was upgraded to Business Class without even asking if any upgrades were available. Also, the benefit of being able to board the plane earlier than the rest of the passengers (regardless of seat class) ensures you can settle in and have your carry on bags stored close to your seat. I remember that I learned about the benefits of the Marco Polo Club on this site. Otherwise I would not have even considered it.

Oh yeah, earlier this year I was traveling with a friend from USA to BKK and even though we booked separately we were both able to benefit by just using my MPC card. I just mentioned to the attendants or reps that we were traveling together. Because of the multiple trips I have made to BKK and Bali from USA I was quickly upgraded to the Gold. I also like that I can use my membership to benefit on OneWorld airlines and lounges in USA.

Bless! It's a Frequent Flyer membership for Cathay Pacific, so it's free.

SORRY, not FREE.
Note the USD50 enrollment fee...
And miles expire on the yearly anniversary of membership.

I fly from JFK to Manila on Cathay Pacific and fly Cebu air (Cebu Air is only 300 RTinto Bangkok), thanks for the advise on the use of the card to get that shower. I did use it as I had a 12 hour layover last year and took a bunk for 8 hours and the shower. I did have to pay for some but it was nothing near what it would have been had I not had the card. BTW the 50 USD is lifetime unless I am mistaken.

I do believe the 50 USD fee is a one-time charge for the life of your Marco Polo membership. Asia Miles is the FREE mileage program offered by Cathay Pacific but it does not have the advantages afforded to Marco Polo members.

Also, the miles do not expire every year. Your membership level reset and your miles towards earning the next level is reset to zero тАЬ0тАЭ on your anniversary but your miles are there and will expire at another time (2 or 3 years later) if unused.

Yes, 1PR4BKK is correcet. $50 one time fee and your level does reset every year.

This last trip my reset was on Jan 31'st. I left Hong Kong on the 31st and arrived in San Francisco, just like Phineas Fogg, on the 31st. Alas, the Powers that Be thought that I arrived a day late and I lost my Silver membership. After a tearfull (long distance) call I was able to get the Powers that Be to reinstate my Silver Membership for my last trip.

I woul'd call that FANTASTIC coustomer service!

Oh, and did I mention I got a Business Class upgrade for free on my last trip home 2 weeks ago?

Wes, I'm glad you are able to take advantage of the lounge. I can't overemphasize how wonderful it is after a long 13, 15, 19 hour flight to be able to take a shower and shave and have a decent cup of coffee!...(not to mention a nice long leisurely CRAP!) hey, we're Gay, we can handle it right?

Hey Kenc, I LOVE the FREE Business Class Upgrades. It was the only pleasant thing about my trip's ending when I left Thailand a few weeks ago. CP has become my new carrier of choice.

I just joined Marco Polo Club and I was already an Air Asia miles card holder, so the membership number is the same. What puzzles me after reading the previous posts is that my email welcoming me says that my membership is valid for 1 year. Does it get renewed automatically each year?
Also I assume the card will be sent to my home address. If I need to fly before I get the card, what does one do to prove membership to take advantage of boarding etc.
Thanks in advance.

The membership level is good for one year but your membership is good for as long as you earn miles with the program. If you ear the status of Silver or Gold one year, it will reset a year after you ear the status. You will not lose your miles or membership at that time...just your status will go back to basic level.

The will send you your physical card after your first flight where you earn miles. As long as you add your Marco Polo (Asia Miles) account number to your reservation you should not have to worry. Print out your Marco Polo information page that shows your number and take with you to the airport. A smart thing would be to carry it in your travel folder or near your passport so you won't forget it. Make sure you let the check-in agent know that you have a Marco Polo account and to make sure it is added to your booking. You will be fine.

I think 1PR4BBK answered all your questions.
Your membership never expires.
Your level expires after 1 year.

But beware, your miles expire after (I think) 2 years. You can use them up for lounge access (7000miles) or an upgrade or (if you're lucky) a free ticket.
They also have stuff you can spend them on like a night in a fancy Hong Kong hotel or a box at the horse races in HK as well as the fancy junk they sell in the Duty Free magazine..

I've used my miles for the business class upgrade and in the past for the lounge access.

BTW, Skytrax has again named Cathay Pacific Best Asian Airline of the year.

But.... I still think the stewardesses on Singapore Airlines are the prettiest. :flower:

[PS NO! I don't own stock in this company either!]

[PPS Now that I'm a Silver member I get the quarterly magazine "The Club" which shows me all the places I can't afford to stay and all the stuff I can't afford to buy. It makes nice toilet reading.]
