quoting from the report which you obviously did not read

King Bhumibol was crowned the King of Thailand on May 5th, 1950. Next year will see his 60th anniversary coronation.

This is similar to a thai boy telling you he has just turned 18, but his 18th birthday as we know it is not for 12 months

I read the headline only, you are correct.

The King was crowned 59 years ago. They can start celebrating the 60th anniversary a year early if they want, I'm not bothered.
