View Full Version : Marooned in Bangkok

I will be in Bangkok about 5 May and will be staying at Rose Hotel. I sorta have some loyalty to this place but their room rate is 1950 baht/night - which I think is overpriced, however great pool and no problem with joiners and close to silom action. Problem is if I get stuck in BKK for any length of time - say, like 2 weeks it would be impossible for me and my travelling companion (seperate rooms) to remain there and still enjoy BKK delights. I still want my boys and eat them too,
pardon the pun.
So if I had to hunker down (I hate that expression) - has anyone got any ideas for accommodation?
Worst case scenario - 2 weeks.
Would maybe looking at twin share/aircon etc...

Tks

If things get so bad that the airport is closed - and I think it would have to be really bad for that to happen - then you shouldn't be staying in Bkk at all. Move to Pattaya and there should be plenty of cheap rooms even if not gay places.

If you must stay in Bkk, then in extremis, consider dorm beds in Lub.d (www.lubd.com (http://www.lubd.com))or Take a Nap (www.takeanaphotel.com (http://www.takeanaphotel.com)) which I hear are about 400 baht person per night.

If you think you can afford it, check out Silom Street Inn and others in its vicinity somewhere around Silom Soi 18, 20 or 22. I have never stayed there but I enquired once about a year or two back, and I vaguely have the sense they're in the 1,100 baht range.

There are also cheapish hotels around Sukhumvit Soi 22 or 24. At least they look cheap, I have never enquired about their rates.

Oh I forgot - there's always Suriwongse Hotel, and Niagara Hotel on Silom Soi 9. They're better known as short time places, but they do have long-time prison cells (oops, I mean rooms). They're depressing places, but hey, you'll survive.

I also hear that Niagara's rooms have in-house porn on the telly. I've never checked it out though.
