Yellow Shirt on Monday

With all the chat about the red shirts out an about. Can anyone relate if it is still the custom to wear a yellow polo shirt on Mondays? One of my Thai friends gave me one with a nice crest on the pocket, but with all the concern about the shirt people, I'm just wondering if it is a good idea to wear the yellow shirt on Mondays.

Thanks, I do believe I will leave that very nice yellow shirt at home this trip. For the past couple of trips is was fun to wear the yellow shirt on Mondays, but in an abundance of caution, I will leave it at home this trip. It was my understanding it was an honor to the king to wear a yellow polo shirt on Monday.

I'm still seein' lots of yellow shirts. I'm not seeing many red shirts, thank you. Actually I find myself more intriqued by the orange and green shirts. :colors:

At His Majesty's big birthday bash I bought one of those yellow shirts and always brought it with me. Unfortunately it lost it's "neutral" connotation when the anti-Thaksin forces used it as their rallying color and I left it behind this last trip. And now I'm also careful not to pack anything Red when I visit.

Keep your head down, your opinions to yourself and your colors neutral when you visit - that's my motto.

Or use the pink one :-)
Or as one of my farang friends asked me, maybe we should go into the business, red on the one side and yellow on the other, you dont even have to wash it then., peace :flower:
But remember now there have been fights between the blue shirts (who the hell are they?) and the red shirts in Pattya, it seems to be very difficult to wear any colours this days. Maybe just black? It is my favourit colour because it makes me look more slim. haha

I was just going to post that wearing red as a farang most likely would not be interpreted as a political statement as the paid protested are all Thai. Then I see on Ch.3 news some old fart farang wearing a red shirt in the middle of all the protesters waving a sign and jumping around, who is this guy? He might have been chanting "hay hay LBJ how many kids you kill today"

On Thai News now, the Reds have broken into the hotel. It appears that the army and the police try to form a line and when the Reds push they give way.

I understood that wearing yellow on Mondays was to last for a year but there never was an official announcement to stop, so it slowly petered out. You still see some yellow shirts, maybe 10-15% but not necessarily on just Mondays.

Yes, a Thai friend said something about it being expected that people would wear them on Mondays in 2008 only. The pink shirt was for the Late Princess, Her Royal Highness the Princess Galyani Vadhana, and light blue are the colors for the Queen. The color relates to the day of birth.

Sunday - red
Monday - cream/yellow
Tuesday - pink
Wednesday - green
Thursday - orange/brown
Friday - blue
Saturday - black/purple

Too dangerous to wear solid colours anymore. Instead, pack more florals next trip:

Bing, get a grip, old chap. Not even a rabid Thai mob is going to care what colour shirt a harmless farang of mature years is wearing. I shall be walking the streets wearing red shirts and yellow shirts by turns and whistling 'Rule Britannia' as usual.
