View Full Version : 1st time visit

Hi Guys.
I am planning to visit Bangkok during September. It will be my first time in Bangkok & Thailand.

I would appreciate your advice and suggestions.

Firstly, accommodation.
I was wondering about Babylon, which looks good. My only concern is distance from the gay bars, etc. I do not like being too dependent on taxis (more inconvenience than cost - I once had to wait an hour for a taxi in Sydney). I prefer walking where possible.
How far by taxi is Babylon to the 'action' and how difficult is it to get a taxi?

Secondly, I have to be near a gym. If I stay in the Silom area I was thinking of California Wow. Anyone know what their daily rate is? Perhaps it is cheaper just to buy a one month membership. May be in Bangkok for 10 days (at least 5-6 gym visits).

Also, I was wondering how pushy the boys in the gay bars are. I was reading how patrons in some of the same sex venues get hassled all the time.

I prefer more manly, muscled guys - the more manly & muscled, the better. Have to be good looking as well. I know, I know I'm too picky ;-) and was wondering if anyone could recommend massage parlours with such guys? What happens if I go to one - how do I know what guys are available? What if there is no one that I like. Do I have to pick one or can I leave without feeling pressured?

Does anyone know of a tour company that specialises in gay day tours in Bangkok or surrounding areas?

Thanks guys.
Clinton

Babylon is a great place , I prefer to stay at teh Pinnacle and walk to Baybylon though,

Work outs, Take a break your on vacation enjoy the venue

I am sure you will find guys you like if you look, also the boys aren't all that pushy, It is the mamasaun and the taunts, just say no thanks and pick out a guy you like. There are lots of masculine looking guys in Bangkok just look. Someone that lives in Bangkok can point you to the kind of bars you are looking I am sure there will be a flood of posts to answer your every question, our people here at SGT are so nice and I am sure they will want to serve you coffee while you are there. Seriously, there are a lot of nice guys, not all agree but you will find lots of answers to your questions. There is a guy named OAT, it forgot his email but I am sure some one still has it and he will gladly show you around, I was very pleased with his service and he is gay and very accommodating and most anxious to take you to the best places to visit in and around Bangkok.

first I would suggest you get acquainted with the search feature on the forum, most of these questions have already been answered several hundred times all you need do is put in a key word and hit the search key.

All the best,

Wes

Hi Guys.
What if there is no one that I like.
Thanks guys.
Clinton

That is easy to answer; go to your room and beat off !.

Really Clinton, you are obsessing too much about what if. Just go and learn for yourself; no one can give your the right answer to all your questions. You will have a good time.

Wes & Fattman,
Thanks for the comments and suggestions, they have been helpful.
I have also done a search of the forums and did get some info this way.

Francois,
You're right, I do obsess too much, but I don't think you understood me correctly - see the quote at the bottom of the message from Wes.
What I meant was - I have actually never been to a massage parlour before (in any country) and was wondering if once you go in you sort of feel pressured to just pick someone. I was brought up to be a polite boy.
But you are right, I worry too much and will read into what you said that if there is no one that I like, I should just politely say no thanks and leave.

Thanks again guys.

You are right Clinton, I did read your message incorrectly. Going to a massage house can be intimidating, as least for me. It is difficult to pick the right guy. But even if you pick a "loser" at least you get a massage if not a happy ending. I have walked in, looked them over, and then left.
In some places you can have a drink, relax, look over the selection and then decide what to do.

I thought your post was very humorous, " I prefer more manly, muscled, and good looking as well". Just don't be too picky!

First I would recommend staying at the old Tower Inn in Silom Road now called Unico Grande. it is walking distance to the bars, or a passing cab outside about 35 baht Never get the ones that park outside
There is a gym and roof top pool and it depends how serious you want to get or if you want to cruise
Location and photos
http://unicograndesilom.com/facilities.html

No problems about taking bar boys or girls back
the rates quoted can be improved on dont rush in and book.

There have been threads on Gyms in the last month or so .Use the search feature top right

You indicated you are into muscle marys.Tawan has the most, usually 30yo+. I usually like to start there between 9 and 10
Located midway between Unico and Patpong. Do a search on Tawan lots of posts

There is a massage place where the boys mostly men work out in a gym whilst you have a drink or snack. From memory there is a menu card which says what each one will do I think it is Albany but will probably get corrected

dont worry too much about it being your first visit . we all survived.

Re a tour guide .fattman posted this re Oat and it gives his webpage and email

Guys, not sure if this has been covered before. Tried a quick search on the forum, but could not find info on this.

I was wondering if the bars have more shows over the weekends? Have read some of the posts in the forum about the interesting shows and definitely want to see as many as possible. I currently live in smallish rural town and don't get out much, so this trip is partly to make up for that ;-)

Can't decide if I need the be there over 2 weekends or not.

Thanks
Clinton

Ben, was that an original piece of work? I hope that it makes you feel better to have got it off your chest. However if you start with the expectation that every guy lives up to those stereotypes, you will never recognize a jewel!

On bars and their shows: The simple answer to your question is no.

More information: The bars with shows can be found along Soi Pratuchai (also called Soi Duangthawee, also called Soi Twlight), plus two other bars outside that soi (lane), namely Jupiter and Tawan. These two however are within walking distance of Soi Pratuchai. Whether low or high season, weekday or weekends, shows start at either 10 pm or 10:30 pm, and generally lasts one hour. Most bars will also put up a second, shorter show, around midnight or 12:15 am. If you are coming in September, which is the low season for farang tourists (not the low season for Asian tourists), you will probably find the bars less than full, so there is a good chance that you'll get a good seat. The flip side is that with fewer patrons, they may get a little pushier about wanting you to "off" a boy for the night.

You mentioned in your first post that you like beefy guys. Bars have over the years differentiated themselves somewhat. Roughly in descending order (listing only bars with shows).

Group 1: Body-builder types

Tawan - bodybuilders and body-builder wannabes, running to fat, almost all straight. Shows are pathetic. Mamasans not pushy at all, but boys will approach you on their own.

Group 2: Goodlookers, medium

Dream Boy - selection of boys meant for Asian tourists, i.e. medium build, fair complexion, some muscle, V-shape. Show said to be one of the best two in the area.

Boys Bangkok - selection same as Dream Boy, Show is so-so.

Jupiter - lean toned medium height boys. Show said to be one of the best two in the area. Mamasans pushy.

Group 3: Mixed bag

Fresh Beach Boys - Medium boys, but quite variable in physiques. Show pathetic.

Future boys - ditto. Show pathetic, but lots of big cocks.

Hotmale - ditto. Recent reports mention that this is becoming a tattooed boys' bar. My impression is that this bar may work for those who like boys bordering on rough trade. Show is pathetic, but lots of big cocks.

X-Boys - large number of boys, very variable in the looks department, but generally smaller than the boys in Group 2. Show so-so. Music extremely loud.

Group 4: Higher proportion of smallish, femme boys

Classic Boys - Actually, most of the boys are straight, but this bar has about 30 percent of the smallish femme type. Show is pathetic, but it has an underwater show, unique for Bangkok.

There is also a bar called X-size, which I haven't been into for quite a while. Don't know what it's up to.

Guys,
Once again, thank you for the replies and advice.
Macoroni21, I found the list and comparison of bars really helpful.
I may be postponing my trip to November (more sunshine and less rain), but I have a better idea of what to expect, where to stay and which bars to visit.
