I think this para from the email sent overnight is over doing the self congratulations.

"We currently have over 2,000 active profiles on the site
and this number continues to grow each day. We also have over 8,000
visitors to the site each day. We appreciate you making the site
grow in numbers and popularity"
-----------------
Each time I go to look at the personals and click on a new page the counter goes up one
25 pages does not mean 25 visitors
I think it would be more accurate to say 8000 page views per day
They are still working on the forum board and expect it to be tested next week.

When can I breathe out?

On the up-stroke.

Brokebacked: "Tighten your girdle...you're in for a bumpy ride," he said--And it was. :sex:

LOL. When can I breathe out? Be careful about that breathing out
thing. It is a killer! When I first saw the Lion King on Broadway, I
took a gasp when I saw the first scene. I took a very deep breath in.
Luckily for me, I too knew I needed to breath out. Same Same?

Paulg: Thanks for the post. We always appreciate the publicity. The
hit counter on the home page is for page hits to the homepage only. It
is not visitors to the site or other page views other than that one
page.

March 31st, 2006:
16,497 hits to homepage
6,283 visitors
1,451 visits from Google Adwords

Not that any of the above is important. I don't think it is. I just
find it amusing that people on this board are so caught up in trying
to attack others and find a way to insult them or take them down in
any way. Actually, I don't find it amusing at all. I find those that
have little life other than to attack others and create negativity are
sad individuals. The strength of this board should be to encourage
others and to express common ground. I have never really understood
the Hedda or Gaybutton issues. But, it seems that anytime anyone does
something that they construe as different or competitive to this board
that the nails come out. What I find most comical is that I don't
feel the owners or moderators of the boards feel the same as those of
you with venom. In my opinion, I find that the people who put forth
the sweat and time with websites related to gay Thailand want to work
together and cooperate with other.

For those of you that can't seem to say anything nice about anyone or
try to create any good energy, there is a good doctor in town who is
always in need of financial assistance. He is one who is trying to do
good with others to help make Thailand a better place for others. If
he received one dollar for every nasty comment made on a message board
here, he would be able to build a much-needed facility.

I don't often respond to those on this board who are out to criticize
everyone and everything. All I can really say is that in the grand
scheme of things is the fact that I sent out a newsletter that says
8,000 visitors a day when on some days we have less and on some days
we have more really all that important? Perhaps it goes to
credibility? Perhaps we can chuck it up to salesmanship? Or, just
perhaps I have too much time on my hands to respond to this post and
others have too much time on their hands as well?

This post is not aimed at Paulg who started the thread. It is
something I have wanted to say for a while. After sitting last week
with a group of 4 others who have posted on this board in the past,
and none do so anymore because of the nasty nature of some of those on
the board, I wondered what the motivation was to be so nasty. I can't
figure it out. For those that don't like my board (when it is live
and someone posts) don't go there. For those that don't like what
GayButton has to say, don't read it. For those that don't like what
Hedda does, avoid her. But, for goodness sake, grow up. I find this
board informative and very useful to me as a traveler to Thailand. I
found GayButton's site very useful on my first trip here and I always
enjoyed reading his take on things. I don't know why I can't access
them now in Thailand. But, I will just bet that the ones who are
being nasty and bitter on here had something to do with it. What they
don't realize is that it doesn't just hurt GayButton or ElephantSpike;
it hurts us all. Repeating what I said earlier: for goodness sake
grow up!

Peace and love!

I do not see my remarks as attacking but a statement of fact. In the last 3 minutes when I signed in there was one other member, yet the hits for the day went from 9848 to 9888 and whilst typing this to 9950

I just did a refresh before sending this and it is now 9969

Could it be your counter is being generous?

"Hits" are not the same thing as "visitors". "Hits" are the # of files that are accessed. Each image is a file, so if 2 people view a page with 10 images on it, it counts as 20 "hits", or something like that.

"Visitors" usually means unique visitors, but sometimes it means page views. This site receives approximately 8,000 page views a day from approximately 800 unique visitors, meaning the average visitor views 10 pages per visit.

I'm guessing that in Gay Thailand's case, the visitors means page views, which means that they have around the same amount of traffic as this site does. It may, in fact be a lot busier than that. Their most popular feature so far (as I had predicted) is the personals ads. You can't judge the volume of traffic on a site by the volume of posts on its message board.

My interpretation of Gay Thailand's stats is this:

March 31st, 2006:
16,497 hits to homepage (number of files on the homepage times however-many page veiws the homepage has had that day)
6,283 visitors (number of page views site-wide for that day)
1,451 visits from Google Adwords (number of clicks onto the site they have received from their pay-per-click ad campaign.)
478 Members logged in (number of members who have been logged-in at some point that day)

16,497 I was told was hits to the url www.gaythailand.com (http://www.gaythailand.com) I will check on this though.
6,283 is the number of visitors we get according to the site statistics software on the server
1,451 you are correct. It is the number of clicks onto our pay-per-click ad campaign.
478 you are correct. It is the number of members that logged on that day.

As I said, Paulg, I did not take your comment or thread as anything other than a post. However, as I was began to let me breath out, I decided to make more general comments. It really was not intended toward you. I really did appreciate your post.

Thanks to Elephantspike for helping me gain access in order to post.

I just revisited GT without signing in
I then went to profiles and each time the pop up requesting sign in details was shown
Each new page I went to the same pop up was shown
I guess I was showing on the counter as multiple log ins (as a new person each time)
You will need to do a test yourself to see what is happening.

The pop-up is just prompting you to log-in. A "hit" or a "visitor" does not mean "a new person".

You will need to do a test yourself to see what is happening.

I'm sure the software is working fine. It is just a matter of learning how to interpret the data. It is not as easy as you might think it is to do that.
