90 bloody days to go

The beloved threatening serious physical harm if I follow through on my idea to save a few baht while we're in Bangkok this April by booking a room at the Malaysia Hotel.

Land 'o Silly Hats . . . but somehow he pulls it off. Quite endearing the way Thai guys can wear just about anything, and still end up looking sleek and graceful.

Instead of visiting once a year and stay over a month. Why not break up the trip to twice a year and stay 2 weeks each time. This may help reduce the anxiety of waiting.

I thought of that but it is better for everyone if I take one long vacation.

If I took 2, 2 week vacations, my boss/co-worker would be truly upset.

You know... When I think of Thailand, I think of the food vendors. I think of the Sky-train. The strange aroma of foods I have yet to try... Vendors inviting me into the game of bargaining for things I only wanted to glance at... Children walking by but finding it difficult to look away from the western dark skinned Farang..... I think of only having to pay about $200.00 to get first class seating from Chiang Mai to Phuket on a direct flight. I think about walking down the hall of my hotel only to have a Thai quickly duck back into their room for a moment and returning with one or two others to witness this strange looking guy....

Yes I think of the guys also but they are never at the front of my thoughts or the reason I come to thailand....

But you did not ask me any of that and I don't know why I told you all that.....

So forget all that :D

Bodine,
Sorry . . . those photos were taken at Prasat Phra Khaeo Wihan located in the far south east corner of Isaan, directly on the Thai-Cambodian border. In fact the main part of the temples/ruins of Phra Wihan are actually inside Cambodia (no visa needed).
It's well worth a visit for those interested in such things.

Here's a good map showing the location:

Are the blue box/white number legends miles/kms distance?
Highway numbers.

A reasonable guess would be about 150 kms from Surin to Phra Wihan.

I was trying to calculate Udon Thani to Yasothon (don't ask!) - and found the answer is "undefined". How very Zen

I'm afraid your post provides yet more evidence of the desperate need for an irony button, John. As for karma - beating you already :?

There's no one left with a (+) Karma anymore!! Is this what ElephantSpike had in mind?
By the way, one can't get tagged with a (-) Karma on The Bog. H-dd- won't let it happen.

I thought the pic with the steps was taken at Phanom Rung which is an old Hindu temple in Buri Ram...

I also thought my last boyfriend was a virgin...fooled again! :ohttp://img2.postimage.org/198171/templehindu.jpg (http://img2.postimage.org/forums/sawatdee_gay_thailand/198171/templehindu.html)

" ... I thought the pic with the steps was taken at Phanom Rung which is an old Hindu temple in Buri Ram ... "
Hi xuanloc,
Both Phanom Rung and Phra Wihan have quite impressive set of steps up to their main temples, but Wihan's staircase(s) are much longer, much heavier going (in the heat), and in a series of steps: One thinks they've come to the summit? No no no ... there's lots more to go!! It's a challenge.

It's my understanding that Phanom Rung is Khymer in origin, not Indian. But there was a lot of inter-travel and cultural mixin' back in those days, so it wouldn't surprise me if the temple has multiple influences. Definitely there is much evidence of phallic worship in Phanom Rung: There's a huge, fat, quite unsubtle stone dildo in the middle of the main temple ( well-fingered ... it's smothed over beautifuly from many loving hands  ) ... and I think that's Hindu influence.

Cheers ...

PS ... just did a googling of Phanom Rung to refresh my memory, and in fact it seems that we are both correct . . . Hindu and Khymer influences. http://www.sundial.thai-isan-lao.com/phanom_rung.html

This is a (rather poor) photo of Phanom Rung's starircase (looking down from the top). It's much better preserved than at Phra Wihan, which in places is a very difficult climb.
