http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article2160891.eceI think it's Stickman who pointed out recently that these sorts of events are rarely reported in the English language editions of the Thai newspapers. It's a sad commentary on a country when residents have to read overseas newspapers to find out what's happening in their own back yard

Apparently the suspect is a Shan, according to reports.

Well quoting from another message board:

The Sun is famous for following the journalists motto: "never let the truth stand in the way of a good story". What is sad is that's the tag line that's now been picked up in all the other reports.

The ritualistic killing bit is pure tabloid hype. Was just talking to some Shan friends and they were saying its not just a Shan thing but several other hill tribes, such as Musa (Spelling?) who believe in this and most don't take it too seriously.

And a humorous note in what is decidedly not a humorous situation, but probably sums up farang reaction to news in Thailand better than the police reaction it means to lampoon:

If the murdered had smashed a plate the police would probably have guests from a Greek wedding as top of their list of suspects.

who is this fruitcake ?..and what nonsense he writes.

As someone who has been fired by The Sun more times than you have had hot dinners I can report that the truth indeed, never got in the way of a good story..but this is a better story as seen on the same page :

Trannie Killer Given Life In Jail

PS: be prepared for a follow up of this unfortunate chaps "sordid" lifestyle in Chaing Mai (being invented as we speak)
PPS: I have since regained my journalistic integrity and am unemployed..and probably unemployable.
ppps: "By STAFF REPORTER "means no-one wants to put their name to the story so is likely to be a drunken old stringer.

Any idea what the motivation was? Was the murder a barboy? And was he cute?

Your post is a sad and sick reflection on the fact that someone has been murdered.
If you want to read more have a look here: Thai Visa Chiang Mai Forum (http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Farang-Murdered-Chiang-Mai-t237401.html) You will find posts by some people who knew him and others from fuck-wits like yourself.
I never knew the victim but from the responsible posts I have read he was a good man. RIP.

I've read some sad things on this board but this has to be the worst.

When I first read the story the other day, my first thoughts were about Sawatdee's own resident poster "cnx4shan," but I see now that he accessed the board on 24Jan, so he apparently is still alive and kicking.

I've heard that a Thai news service is carrying a report saying that 3 guys have been arrested for this. Anyone heard this and know any other details?
