The Thai Tourism Authority is to launch a campaign called "Apologies Thailand", designed to entice tourists back. The Oriental Hotel is reported to be discounting their rooms heavily - but only to Thai nationals. Amazing Thailand.

"The Mandarin Oriental Hotel on the banks of Bangkok's scenic Chao Phraya River has nearly halved the price of an A$603 room in its river wing -- but only to those with Thai citizenship, staff said. Other hotels are keeping prices steady, instead relying on the normally lucrative Christmas and New Year period to bring in seasonal bookings -- assuming flights are back to normal."

Perhaps an enterprising Thai money boy could offer to bundle himself and a night at the Oriental for less than the farang rate ?

I seem to recall this happened in Queensland - Australia - a few years ago when locals were offered a discount. Maybe the logic is that it will not change international travellers anyway or perhaps Queensland and Thai share the same beliefs - but I dont care to try and rationalise that

Flights from Australia have started to land so Homi might now appear back at any moment- presuming that he did not go with a low cost flier?
