Apart from the usual Mr. Popular award, the Mr.November award and the 1st and 2nd Runners Up, there were several other minor prizes: Best Smile; Best Body; Best 'Special Feature' (use your imagination); and individual awards given by the managers of Telephone and The Balcony.

Can't remember which award No.13 received but will try to find out from the judges and let you know.

Krobbie, you and jinks should be the very last people in the world to talk about the boat races of others, especially with the ones that the two of you have got.

For those of you here that don't know what jinks and Krobbie look like, here is a picture of them below. I should inform you all that the original photograph was taken in colour, but when it was developed, it was discovered that the colour had ran; or perhaps it would be more accurate of me to say that it sprinted. http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk216/ThaiRakThai/big-grin.gif

Cheers,

George.

How is "best special feature" judged?

:D :D :D

If you are talking about jinks and Krobbie, it isn't, as it would be impossible, owing to the fact that they don't possess a best feature between the two of them. http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk216/ThaiRakThai/happy011.gif

I have been out of town on short trips and have not been to Soi 4 in a month but made it there tonight. I was surprised it was busy given that no one is getting in via the Bangkok airports. Balcony is now having a cabaret show at 11:30pm 4 nights a week, Mon. Tue, Thurs and Sat, I think.

I was also surprised to see that the runes that was the Roxy, Icon and the old Rome Club has not been left in the pile of pancaked cement and twisted rebar but is taking shape in a new disco to be called 'The Club Nine' The front is all modern glass and steel. I took a look inside and there's going to be a rap around balcony and a stage. I would guess it will be open in a few months give or take the usual Thai variance.

There's also a new Italian restaurant that is open next to or part of Bar Bar.

I missed all the recent soi 4 events traveling around Thailand and no one has posted anything on what's been going on.

Thanks for the info. SilomSoi4. I could have guessed that I suppose.

And Trongpai, thanks for the news about 9 Night Club. Open in a few months? No! - open next week apparently! Have faith.....

I checked out their web site: www.9nightclub.com/ (http://www.9nightclub.com/) - maybe that will be open next week too.... But I see they are recruiting males 18-25 for many different positions and to contact Khun Mon. Not much time for staff training.

.

The Cabaret Shows are a joint venture between The Balcony and Telephone Pub.
Shows 4 nights per week, Monday, Tuesday, Friday & Saturday - all at 11.30pm

The New Italian Restaurant is called "Vicolo Quattro" and is on the 3rd/4th Floors and the roof of the same building as Bar Bar.
Authentic Italian food made with all imported ingredients by an Italian chef. Very tasty.

Another new business in Silom Soi 4 that TrongpaiExpat missed is "BAS Living Room" BAS Living Room (http://www.bas-4.com/)
Part owned by an ex-member of Sphinx's staff.

have a look at this eye-candy from Silom Soi 4

No offence to those taking part and I know we all have different tastes (and there is no accounting for some), but in all seriousness looking down that line up if this is the best selection Bangkok has to offer now then I hate to imagine what Mr Christmas will look like. Rose-tinted glasses? The selectors must have checked in their white sticks at the door.

A Thai ex-staff member of Sphinx and his farang boyfriend are the owners.

On a related Soi 4 subject, I would like to warn people of a certain waiter working at Balcony. While *extremely* friendly, he likes to borrow a lot of money from customers. Money which is of course never repaid.

So, when dealing with Balcony waiters, it is AYOR.

December 29th, 2008, 13:35
Yeah well, I'm indeed learning this the hard way, I guess... The guy is running some kind of freelance moneyboy business with the customers he meets at Balcony. Of course, I found out about this three weeks after we started dating and after I lent him some hard-earned cash... Grr.

December 29th, 2008, 13:40

The second guy looks very farang-esque (and the seated female type person with similar hair color seems to be smirking at him). Was this an international competition or are these things generally open to anyone passing and in possession of presentable briefs? Maybe next time 'round we should enter someone from Sawtdee forum.

On closer inspection she seems about to raise a camera to capture the moment for posterity or possible sisterly blackmail.

And he has a passing resemblence to Prince Harry.

I wonder from which side of the family Harry got his looks.

The 'second guy' is indeed 'farang'. If memory serves me right, I believe (eavesdropping on a conversation he had with another farang earlier that week) that he was born in Brasil or Argentina... and was of mixed European parentage. He was billed as the only farang in the line-up! On the two occasions I saw him he arrived alone. I understand the competition is open to anyone... anyone with the courage to parade that is, and the 10,000 Baht entry fee. Talking to some of the Thai staff, I understand that most though not all competitors had their entry fees provided by "sponsors".

I lied!
I have been reliably informed by 'the management' that the Mr. November contest was free to enter. The member of (bar) staff that told me otherwise obviously GOT it wrong!
My apologies to the readership... especially if news of a free entry persuades any of our mature and ample readers to enter next time.

One needs to exercise caution when listening to members or otherwise trying to engage them in activities contrary to their nature.

the first post he made when he joined was all about the moneyboys no longer swallowing his juice and why not etc etc. Personally I found it distasteful, pardon the pun but I really do hate censorship and want to stay out of things as best as possible.

Courtesy of the excellent search engine here this was the first post, by this handle in 2008.

I don't see any reason to ban posters because what they right is fiction, some of the most entertaining and stimulating writers on the forums have invented personas. It wasn't as if he was asking a lot of questions requesting advice and suckering the innocent. It was simply a trip report that while mundane clearly tickled some people. It may have been real or not, but it had a kernel of truth about a certain kind of visitor. If Da Boss didn't like the cum eating aspect, just delete that post.

Difficult calls I know, and nothing pleases everyone, but I always liked to think of this forum as a bit more easy going..................
