Hundreds of protesters blocked the road outside the British embassy in Bangkok on Thursday to demand the extradition of ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra, who lives in exile in London.
More than 100 police officers, armed with shields, were deployed outside the embassy to ensure safety during the demonstration by the anti-government People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) supporters. There was no reported violence.
PAD host Sarosha Pornudomsak read out the PAD's open letter to the British ambassador to Thailand. The letter detailed Mr Thaksin's recent conviction by the Supreme Court on corruption charges, and the PAD's call for the British government to extradite him back to Thailand.
"Why doesn't England send Thaksin back to Thailand to be put in jail?" Ms Sarocha shouted to the crowd.
"We are here to tell (UK Prime Minister) Gordon Brown that England should not keep a bad guy in the country."
