Many of the less expensive hotels in Malate have closed.
Being replaced by high-rise apartments.

You might look for these: Malate Pension, Joward's Pension House. Both are on Adriatico near Remedios Circle.
Midprice: The Pearl Garden, Rothman Hotel, Las Palmas Hotel, and City Garden Hotel. All are near Robinson's Center.
I prefer to stay at the Pan Pacific; definitely 5 star. Also the Hyatt Hotel and Casino Manila is near by.

I would much rather stay in Malate, rather than Mikati. It is changing but still has that old world charm.

And plenty of hot guys at Robinson's Center.
On my first trip got picked up by two lovely guys!!!
But that is another story...

INGAT!! (Take care in Tagalog)

The Tropicanna is also very popular in the Malete area. Have not been there but the pics look nice and it seems to be highly recommended.

Stayed there on my first trip to the Philippines.
The units are OK, but not great.
AC only in the bedroom. Living room and kitchen were spartan.
Good location. Very near Robinson's Mall.
Does have a swimming pool.
Handsome bellman who was married.
HAHA
What more can I say...
