View Full Version : The Nobel Prize for Economics

October 14th, 2008, 07:16
I'm pleased to read that this year's Nobel Prize for Economics has gone to one of my favourite economists, Paul Krugman. He is often credited with forecasting the Asian downturn of 1997; although he said there'd be a downturn he didn't get any of the reasons right! My kinda guy

Strictly speaking (as I found out the other day) the Nobel Prize in Economics isn't a Nobel Prize at all - http://timharford.com/articles/undercovereconomist/

Poor old Aunty Tourette had better hope that the Nobel Prize after which she lusts is the real thing. There also isn't a Nobel Prize for racists who moderate gay Web sites in foreign cuntries. Of course, Aunty has won an Ig Nobel Prize - http://www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com/fo ... .php?e=313 (http://www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com/forum/weblog_entry.php?e=313)

Oh, and before WhiteDesire rushes in and says I should read Krugman's comment about Gordon Brown saving the financial world (headed "Gordon does good") - I already have

I believe this award was granted for his long body and history of work at the University and not for his columns in the NYTimes.

But there is speculation about how this is going to be received by George W.Bush when he hosts, as usual, all the Nobel prize winners at the White House.

Then again..Bush doesn't read newspapers does he ?..so he probably hasn't got a clue who Krugman is. :geek:

George Bush reads more books than you do, I suspect. Although that's probably not saying much. So, INCREDIBLY, does Sarah Palin, a voracious reader.

By the way, here's something hilarious/crazy/tragic:

"George Bush reads more books than you do, (and apparently upside down ) I suspect. Although that's probably not saying much. So, INCREDIBLY, does Sarah Palin, a voracious reader."

Possibly... but I don't believe The Adventures of Noddy and Big Ears really counts and I'm quite sure Sarah Apalin regularly subscribes to Moose Hunter Monthly.
