A friend just sent me an e-mail telling me about this:

Evidently the Aussie dollar has lost thirty percent of its value in the past month or so? Why? (Or does the question even apply?)

The graph is a plot of the AUD versus the USD, but you can put just about any other currency in place of the USD and the graph will look the same, I think.

The AUD was inflated due to
- high interest rates (carry trade) which have been cut
- high demand for commodities which is now down

However the reaction is exagerated and the extreme weakness will not last long.

Good value now to go to Australia - country which I love!

...and that is a point. Travel there becomes much less expensive, for us buggers from abroad.

Shit, now I'm going to have to try to remember how to speak Aussie English! :-)

And bring home CASES of Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc!

For sale, cheap, in Australia, if you can catch it before it's all gone.
