Hi guys!!!

It's been years that I've been here. Sadly, been preoccupied with other shit which meant taht I wasn't able to come here. Then the site disappeared. Yesterday when I was re-organising my mailbox, I found a letter with a link to the older site and now here I am...

Q!!! (Naturally) Not having been to Thailand in ages (2004 was the last time) What's the scenes like in Bangkok? What's good, what's not? Where to go and see? Is DJ as active as ever? Which are the better massage parlours?

Am planning to also go to Phuket... What's good there? What does one do there?

Take care,
Icar

DJ Station is as expensive and crowded as usual -- or was, the last time I was there, and the boyf insisted on leaving ASAP (couldn't breathe, couldn't see the point of it).

Phuket. The main sport there is bumping into farang tourists and saying "Excuse me." It's dreadfully expensive -- fried rice with pork 160 baht. "My Way Phuket" used to be the best gay bar in the freeping country, but then the owner handed it over to his boyf and it is now one of the worst. Unless your taste runs to farang queens all dolled up in knee-high pink cowboy boots and mad feather constructions floating over their heads. Then I could recommend MWP to you. It used to specialize in good-looking Thai lads, alas!

When were you last in Phuket? Or Bangkok for that matter?

DJ Station expensive? Drinks were 100 Baht when I was last there

Fried rice with pork 160 Baht. Well it depends on the venue, not the province! I've had the best red pork in Phuket that I have eaten anywhere for 30 Baht.

I wasn't aware that farang queens had taken over the shows at My Way, when did this happen?

I was last in Phuket in April, 2007. I was last in Bangkok in March of this year.

I commented that DJ Station was expensive because it costs 200 baht to get in the front door. If there are two of you, that makes 400 baht. True enough, the cover charge includes two drink tickets, so if you can struggle to the bar and order, AND your boyfriend does not insist on leaving ASAP, it could be reasonable.

Fried rice with pork? It cost 160 baht inside the hotel and outside. When we went out for dinner, the tab was reliably 1,000 baht for two people eating fish and drinking beer.

More than that, though, are two items. (1) It is entirely possible for two people to visit the same place and have different impressions. (2) When was the last time you saw a group of THAI tourists in Phuket? It is a matter of fact that Thai refuse to visit Phuket because of the expense involved.

As for farang drag queens taking over the show at "My Way Phuket" -- the when and the why -- you need to ask someone else. I was only a visitor, and fled in terror when the curtain was raised.

Over and out.

DJ expensive???? IT is one of the most reasonable places for a drink...On Friday and Saturday nite you pay a 200 baht entrance fee but that is for two drinks and...they are NOT watered down. DJ enforces the no smoking ordinance soyou can breathe easily and walk out without smoke on your clothes. Another place to hit (if you are into the club scene) is GOD which now has a show that starts around 1:30 (this place use to be Freemans). DJ and G.O.D. is not for everyone --especially if you don't like loud music or crowds but I love those places --great for people watching/ meeting farang and Asians... and seeing people that take care of themselves. G.O.D on Friday and Saturday gets packed by 3am...by that time it is testosterone city. If you're fit, plan on taking off your shirt and showing off those pecs and biceps.

My BF and I prefer Phuket over Pattaya (of course, we live in Pattaya) but Phuket has a couple great dance clubs, a clean beach, and more of a younger cliental than Pattaya. True, what Henry says about eating out in Phuket is more expensive but it is still reasonable compared to wear you come from. What is nice about gay Phuket, is that everything is centered in one area.

Wow...$6 whole dollars per person, and you get two drinks. When's the last time you went to a night club in the US or Europe? I think I'm going to have to take the Humming Turd stand on this one: it's always fun to hear how the poor people cope.

Henry, I thought you were such a big stock market investor and yet your complaining about a 100baht drink or a 160 baht meal. I guess it is true that you live in a 2000B a month windowless room with a toilet down the hall. Yikes, just another penny pinching pensioner in our midst.

I will try to answer the original post instead of focusing on Henry's drivel.

Of course Phuket has a very nice beach, with a large gay section. Most of the gay guesthouses and nightlife is centered around Paradise complex. The Boat Bar is a great disco with 2 shows per night. Nothing much gets going there until after midnight there. As mentioned the show bar My Way is ok as is Tangmo the other major show bar. However, for real high energy shows I think the Boat bar show and Kiss are much better. If you want a good place to people watch before or after the shows then Time is a good location. The other people watching place would be James Dean.

The newer JungCeylon shopping mall is a good place if you are a shopper. There are a lot of the chain type eating places and a bit more upscale eating places, way too expensive for Henry.

Over and out.

- I don't think DJ Station is overly expensive... it's not cheap, but 2 drinks for 200baht is ok.

- DJ Station is pretty crowded, but that's only on the ground floor. You can catch a breath on the 2nd and 3rd floors where there's plenty of room and it's not so crowded... although be aware there are a LOT of moneyboys there... it's almost amusing to see them subtly make beeline for you when they notice you wandering up there by yourself. I've never stood on the 3rd floor for longer than 1 minute without a cute boy sidling up with a smile and feigned shyness.

- GOD is pretty cool too... but don't go in there too early or you'll find it empty.

- I want to go check out some of the more non-tourist ones where Thais go... students and all.

- Some people love Phuket... others don't. I love it. It's about 50-100% more expensive than Pattaya but is really really beautiful. The beaches are nice... even at its most crowded period, the main beach Patong is really beautiful and nice to lay on and swim in. Swimming around sunset is incredible. And once the sun sets, you're just a few steps away from your hotel and nightlife.

Even better are the surrounding islands you can visit on speedboat, kayaking or cruise trips. I really recommend the kayaking trips (go with a tour company that lets you self-paddle... the ones that use inflatable canoes and have a guide paddle for you suck) to the island and sea caves.

Downside or upside... depending on how you see it... are that it is a little more family oriented (some families... some young groups... some old singles) so not everyone you see is a sex tourist. However there is still a roaring sex and night life and there are plenty who are sex tourists. I like it a bit better than Pattaya. There's something really odd about Pattaya.

The most I ever paid for fried rice with pork in Phuket was 100-150 baht... and I had most of my meals in beautiful, comfortable cafes/restaurants overlooking Patong Beach. I could've gone around the corner to a smaller street (not main street where you see all the tourists eating) and had it for 30-40baht.. which I did sometimes in the evening. Hotels can be expensive... but not overly expensive unless you're staying in the Holiday Inn or something.

If you go to eateries off the main streets (ie. avoid the ones with lots of touts and tourists) the food is much cheaper. Even for fish and beer etc.

Phuket nightlife... My Way Bar is good, but not all performances are enjoyable... I don't like the long drag songs in Chinese. Owner is charasmatic and friendly. I didn't really like Tamgo. BB Boys is a sexy bar... the boys are young, hunky twinks. Passport Bar is small and not very good. Didn't check out other bars. I really should. There are quite a few other bars and clubs... though not as many as Pattaya (which is nuts).

I never saw farang drag queens at My Way...

Keep shooting in the dark, Doggie. This is a shot of the second floor of my three-story townhouse, which does, after all, have one or two windows.

But your point was??

Maybe I should stop trying to figure that out.

But this photo looks a LOT better with naked guys in the chairs. And that DOES happen, from time to time!

Oh gawd.... you've filled my mind with images of naked boys lounging around your 3-storey house now... what a horrible tease!

Nice polished wood floorboards...

Hey... nice pics.

I found the JungCeylon shopping mall really badly designed... it has such a confusing layout. Going from the main rd, it can be challenging just to find the entrance! Talk about bad architechture... in a major Western city this mall would've been out of business by now. The first time I went to Phuket I popped into the coffee house outside a few times (internet) but didn't even know there was a mall behind there!

I just love Phuket. It's my second favorite place after Pattaya. We're so lucky here in Singapore, with direct flights to Phuket and Udon Thani and Chiang Mai as well as Bangkok.
