for a quick answer, say where you're flying from.

I booked my last ticket through http://www.netflights.com/

505 pounds for a 6 month return (including taxes). Royal Jordanian are usually cheapest, but don't recommend. Have seen their ancient aircraft parked on the tarmac at Bangkok airport. But no recent experience flying with them. Perhaps others would recommend.

I use airline network too. It covers Thai Airways, BA, Qantas and Eva which are the four on which you can fly direct from Heathrow to Bangkok. I think paying a little extra for direct flights is worth it - takes 12 hours or so, which is just about tolerable. With a stopover its anything from 15 hours to a day, plus all the hassle associated with changing flights.

Best prices are usually 6 months or more ahead, unless you take a risk on a "last minute" ticket - I wouldn't, it might work out badly. ┬г540 return with BA is a good price.

Anyone have information on Air India. I see they have some attractive prices, but since I never hear of them
does anyone have an opinion on this airline.

once you've checked the various sites such as netflights, check on the airlines own site. I've often saved quite a bit by doing so.

OK - from Manchester,

1. Investigate whether any European, Gulf/Arab or Asian Airlines who will give you one leg to a hub in Europe, the Middle East or Asia from Manchester. You'll find some are better value than going via Heathrow; possibly the world's worst airport. Is Birmingham also a viable option for you? Remember if you leave your car, though a motorway drive may not be fun after a long flight.

2. Use two computers to make your booking. The second one should have a printer attached. Why? Some travel sites place a cookie the first time your computer looks for a product, you get the best price on the first look. If you don't book it straight off you get served a higher price next time you look on the assumption you've come back to buy, having compared other sites. So use computer one for the searches. Note down your results. Make your booking with computer two and print your receipts.

3. I usually book six to seven months in advance. I paid less than ┬г1500 London City-BKK for Business Class on Swiss booked in March travelled in August. My side trip to Singapore was on Thai (dire - half empty) and Singapore Airlines (great - full) paid for with points except the tax.

Which? recently reported Jet Airways as number one for long-haul from the UK for customer satisfaction though the number of questionnaires returned was lower than for several other quality airlines. I'm suspicious of that result.

I have flown once with Air India, Mumbai to Hong Kong for business in 1994. Quality was well below any other flight I've ever experienced, including BOAC from Paya Lebar in the 1970s. That cost ┬г250 and was to KL the first leg.

Nice one ceejay, your right about a '"last minute booking" I wouldn't fancy that to be honest, I like to sort things out way in advance - less hassle and less head aches!! :-) Maybe I will have to fly from London because as of yet I can not find a direct flight from Manchester.

Providing you don't mind making one change, Emirates, Etihad and Qatar all fly out of Manchester. Contrary to what ceejay says above, I only had a one hour stop over on my last flight with Etihad, making the total time from Manchester to Bangkok a little over 13 hours. Your journey would be considerably longer by making the trip from Manchester to London.

You should try Travelbag, they handle flights for all three airlines above. Their website is: www.travelbag.co.uk (http://www.travelbag.co.uk) or you can give them a call on their free phone number which is: 0800 804 8911. They are an established company in the UK who give an excellent service as well as also being extremely helpful.

George.

after you check the sites mentioned by other posters take a look at westeasttravel.com

sometimes they offer to beat any price if they are not cheaper already.

I prefer a one-stop flight rather than a longer direct one from London, and went with Qatar through Manchester a couple of years ago. Will be flying Etihad next week (but from Dublin via Abu Dhabi). I think the stopover in the Middle East brings the price down a bit. For what it's worth

Kayak is also useful to search flights.

I check all the above suggestions, but recently found www.thaitravelmarket.com/flights/ (http://www.thaitravelmarket.com/flights/) which seems to give a really comprehensive search.

I agree for long flights this is a good travel sarch, however, I have found if you are already in SE Asia the locals tend to already know the best price, it may be a puddle jumper though.

Brad, it's a search tool rather than an agent. They search the best flight prices from major airlines plus ebookers, netflights, southall travel, expedia etc and display the results in a grid where you can compare the same flights with different agencies and direct with the airline.
Yes I have used it, and found some good prices.
