Thai PM's goose may be cooked
THAILAND Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej, his Government already half-paralysed by a civilian uprising in the capital, has been ordered to stand down. The country's Constitutional Court also ordered the election of a new cabinet.

Mr Samak, 73, was yesterday convicted by the court of improperly receiving an income, as a TV chef, other than his parliamentary salary.

This is the most minor of a sequence of legal problems - including a jail sentence under appeal -- confronting the Prime Minister whose rule in its ninth month is now in grave jeopardy.

ppp members simply have a vote and reinstate him as PM - or do they?

I think that is all there is to it. Perhaps Thailand will adopt the North Korean tradition of electing a dead man as it's leader? It wouldn't be much different from the existing scenario. They already have North Korean economics as the royally-approved model - "juche" = "the sufficiency economy". As usual in Thailand with almost everything, people pay it lip-service and then ignore it. Thaksin's crime, in the eyes of the Palace, is that he didn't even pay it lip-service

Juche does not mean sufficiency economy. Its main tenet is self-sufficiency.
