Anyone can fall in love with a face or body, for goodness sake, and I dare say members of this board frequently do. The more telling question is: can we fall in love with the inner person? That takes a bit more maturity. If we think we have done so in the case of the Thai barboys with whom most of us here are mainly familiar, we should ask ourselves the further question: would I still 'love' him if, say, he were to suffer a disfiguring acid attack? I know that thinking about that one has made me feel very uncomfortable at times.

Well it hasn't made me uncomfortable. Of course, if someone were to throw acid in the face of Mr. Diamond, I would be more than extremely pissed-off -- I would regard it as very nearly an attack on me. The same goes for his brother, Dee, and also for Chai, and Dan.

I have been very lucky to get to know such guys.

You might be interested to see Mr. Diamond's friends. They are all (or almost all) wearing distinctive blue shirts.

The distinctive blue shirts identify the boys as members of Num Tai Rom Yen, which literally translated means "Thai-Yai Boys of the Cool Shade." The "Cool Shade" is to be interpreted loosely: these are "comforting guys" who make visits to orphanages and temples. They don't just make visits, either: they bring huge sacks of rice, toys, and clothing.

It occurs to me to wonder: has our Peasant-Pope ever done such a thing in his life? How about that Happy Man, Homintern?

Yet they both sneer at bar-boys, DO THEY NOT? DO THEY NOT??

And while they are sneering, the Shan guys are running around helping the disadvantaged.

Life is a strange, and strangely attractive thing -- as long as you know folks like the NTRY (Num Tai Rom Yen) and avoid the WGFs like Homintern and Chao Na.

too bad Homiturd is on ignore, it would do well to see how he and his one line prods do with Mr Cates.

Now that is a person I could fall in love with.

Much of my free time and cash goes to people who need it. Unlike you, though, my contributions are based on the need of the individual -- not whether they are a sexy boy that I might want to cop a feel from some day.

Sneer at bar boys? Why would I do that? Many of them are lovely, lovely people just trying to give themselves a lift up by their own bootstraps. Of course, many more of them are slothful, deceptive, thieving, drug-guzzling delinquents who would would doubtlessly be living under a bridge (deservedly) were it not for the bar system which provides them a steady stream of Henry Cates.

God, imagine what he would say about people he DIDN'T like!

I agree absolutely. Alas, Mr. Diamond is not up for a long-term deal with another phuu chaay -- not as a lover, anyway -- and, besides, as he said himself on that day, "Let's be good friends. That lasts longer!!"

A really wonderful guy! It is sort of breath-taking to realize: that picture is a picture of his friends.

I'm by no means the only guy who is very fond of Mr. Diamond!

I ask simply because boys could be 18 0r 60 as you define it, is it a level of maturity or an age legally, you brought the subject up now define it more clearly. When is is okay do I have to give him a psychological test to decide if its okay to go home with him.

" ... So, let the merriment begin. What, exactly, is the "self?" This is an essay question ... please locate it physically and tell us what atoms make it up ... "
And a deeply sophomoric essay to boot. Right up there with does a tree make a sound when it falls in a deserted forest where there is no one to hear.
You're trying way too hard again Henry.

Cheers ...

Frankly, Smiles, you are wrong. This is not a question for sophomores. Notice your own reply to the question. You can't answer it. Nobody can.

But it cuts to the heart of the Buddhist and Christian religions.

So, I guess that has no importance at all.

My sincere apologies for trying too hard.[/quote:q9razkhx]

Actually, Henry Smiles is correct in all most every respect. I would suggest a different word then sophomore, but it is close. It is a straightforward question, and it does not require an intellectual examination of the meaning of self. All the questioner wants to point out is that mature people can do more then love the body. So are you mature enough to love the inner person to the point you will still love them when they are not beautiful, or grow old and ugly? All that is needed here is a simple yes or no, but then some people love to hear themselves talk.

Legality has nothing to do with it.
A sixteen year-old is not physically an adult -- regardless of what the law says. An adult is a fully developed human being. At sixteen you are still growing -- both your body and your mind are still immature. It is not until around 18 for most people that the process is complete.

The two threads need to go together, the same discussion of both leaves you answering questions from both, if a boy is what you say then when does the point come when it is okay to go out with a guy and does it take a Psychological test to define when it is okay to go out with him. I agree with the legal definition; however this statement carries well beyond the legal definition. Although I have met boys who were 18 but looked so young I did not feel comfortable with them in public or alone. I have met people at 60 where the process you are talking about has not yet become complete. So, its hard to define a boylover is it the legal age or and does it go well beyond that age or mentally. I have on the other hand met guys that that knew way too much for their age. So, I think the government puts an age limit on so there is no ambiguity about a guyтАЩs age of consent legally. There has to be some legal definition. You can't just leave it with that definition.
