View Full Version : Visit to Doi Boy

August 22nd, 2008, 04:42
Encouraged by recent reports, I decided to drop by Doi Boy for the first time in lo! these many years.

I had the taxi wait while I went inside....

The interior was completely different from 15 years ago. There were three boys, no customers, and a totally empty stage.

This did not meet up with my idea of a good time, so I left Doi Boy and motored on to Free Guy. There were about twenty-five boys, perhaps 10-20 customers, and a SHOW

I still do not understand why I should go back to Doi Boy.

Or is it just a cheap joint?

Apparently its now a gay dance pub rather than gogo bar

I would only emend this to read: It is now a wannabe gay dance pub, rather than a wannabe gogo bar.

Have I ever posted "the complete history" of this place? If encouraged, I might do so! :geek:

Off topic for the Chiang Mai version of Doi Boy, but in fact for many years there used to be a Doi Boy here in Hua Hin.
It has now closed (back in April actually) and deservedly so as it was the venue for possibly the lamest so-called "show" in the Kingdom ... though I haven't yet seen them all :blackeye:

Hua Hin's gay scene now consists of a half dozen small-but-cozy host bars and one lone "show" bar (The Blue Angel) with the show being only slightly better than the old Doi Boy's.
HUa Hin continues to be a place to relax on a lovely beach ... a sweet, clean little get-a-way from the Pattaya/Bangkok/Patong circuit cacophony. Hope it remains so, but I fear: the place is booming with new construction (and has been for some years) and is changing somewhat, but not yet out of all control. The Big Movie theatre at the Big Mall still does not offer English movies (either the language or the subtitles). Tsk tsk tsk.

Cheers ...

Good idea! Drop me a PM if you decide to and I can show you around (all the boy bars would take about half an hour :blackeye: ).
And we have something in common ... I was born in Adelaide, so we can sit around and grate on each other's nerves talking in the, shall we say, 'interesting' Aussie accent.

Cheers ...

Hurrah!
Lets all go to Hua Hin and stay at Smiles' place!

He might have to lock up his boyfriend though.

(Don't worry Smiles, I like Ladyboys so Suphot is safe with me...but watch out for the others!)

All of this is hearsay, but it coincided quite well with what I saw of the place.

The original managers were four young Thai, all gay, and the silent partner was an elderly Englishmen who was convinced that his funds were going towards purchase of a retirement home/farm.

Well, that "retirement home" turned out to be a standard 3-story Chinese shophouse, right across the street from the then-popular "Danny's."

From the beginning, though, all the interactions in Doi Boy were somehow strange, a little "off." I never really understood what was going on until someone explained it to me: the whole enterprise was designed to meet just one (1) goal: plenty of excellent sex for the managers! The "customers" came a very distant second in this scheme. And this probably explains a rather odd event: once I took a guy upstairs at that place, and he was excellent. He was in fact, superb. Afterwards, coming downstairs, one of those managers asked me if everything had been satisfactory. I gave him an enthusiastic "Yes" -- and supplied some telling details -- and never saw that guy again.

Only much later did I understand that my enthusiasm was the REASON he disappeared. The managers wanted him.

Sometime after that, I stopped going. Maybe the old Englishman died, or made a stink, but Doi Boy moved across the street, apparently with a great deal of capital. (How can you run a "gay bar" for year after year after year with no customers?? But if you understand it as more of a Venus Fly-Trap operation, with the funds to back it up, things become a tad clearer.)

Interesting story. I think it was 1998 or 99 and I first visited Doi Boy in Chiang Mai. Macho Bar, The Circle, Adam's Apple and The Coffee Boy were the only go-go options that I recall. Then the Macho closed and Doi Boy actually had some customers back then. I recall this tall and dark very toned body, dressed like a ballet dancer, older mamasan who was quite nice. There was a show of sorts and quite a few boys of all types, some very good looking. Many of the boys lived upstairs from the bar in dorm rooms. I was told they lived there for free. There was also this old as hell old lady with a nasty dog that lived upstairs too--I have no idea how she fit in this scheme.

A year latter some other bar opened just opposite the Doi boy but did not last long, I can't recall the name.

Then near by there was another bar, owned by a very strange hyper American, I can't recall the name of that bar but it did not last long. The guy was in his late 30's, dressed in very strange clothes. Very friendly guy, he wanted to meet up with me and troll for boys near some bridge. I did not answer his calls and never went back to that bar. This was around 1999/2000.
