Hi Guys:

I am planning to visit the LOS in late December 2008 and staying through late April 2009. I am planning to leave from the East Coast of USA (Philadelphia, NYC or Newark). Flights are currently priced at roughly $2,200 USD to $3,500 USD for economy. I was just there earlier this year and had flown Thai Airways' direct flight from JFK in Premium Economy for less than $1,600 round-trip. I am so disappointed Now that TG has discontinued their direct flights to BKK from New York. I knew it was too good to last.

Are there any suggestions on getting a reasonably priced flight from USA's East Coast to BKK? Although I am now in Philadelphia, I am flexible flying out of nearby airports.

wow.... $2,200-$3,500 !!!

We're lucky in Australia it's only around $1,200 to Thailand (AUD$ is worth almost as much as $USD now)... sometimes you can get it for as low as $700-800 with budget airlines.

Eh hehehe... that's what you get for being in the OTHER hemispere :D

could it be that you are staying too long to get a cheap ticket? I think most require a return within 90 days on the least expensive seats. I would say try a consolidator or a travel agent that uses one. From Philly you are located near lots of big airports. You may want to look at Baltimore or even Dulles.

$2200 out of Phili is a good price now days... If I can fly economy out of Chicago now days, that $1900-$2200 is the going "cheap" rate... by the time you get all the surcharges in. Only 4 years ago, I could fly out of ORD for $1200 to BKK round trip. As you probably know, if you look hard enough, find a cheap flight to California and then hook up with Eva Air, China Air or Korean Air. IT takes longer but it is also a nice break from a long flight.

May be somewhat of a hassle for you but why don't you check out flying to LAX on a discount airline and then going EVA.
My guess is you can do that and fly EVA's elite/evergreen deluxe class (about $1,600.00 now) for less than $2,200.00.

You are indicating a flight in late Dec, which is peak season. However, you can fly from Newark on EVA, depending on which day you plan to fly for around 1600. Use the EVA website and look under the hotfare listings. Specific days such as Friday or Saturday are more expensive. Good luck

Back when I lived on the US East coast and was taking yearly trips to Thailand, I almost always did an overnight near LAX. There used to be some decent reasonable hotels but those days are gone. Prices are up. Last time I used Priceline. Go to www.betterbidding.com/ (http://www.betterbidding.com/) see what bids are working for LAX hotels.

Here is a very reliable consolidator. It is likely to save you at least a few hundred dollars, especially if you are staying a long time.

Thanks a bunch guys. I found and booked my flight to BKK via of JFK (New York) for less than $1,300 USD round-trip (including taxes and surcharges). There is a minimal layover in Japan but I can deal with that.
