As a reader for about 3 months I have to agree with you. It is currently trying to implode, or at least seems that way. I made the choice to register last week so that I could contribute positively, not be surrounded by negativity. Hopefully what originally attracted me several months ago will return.

To use your real name takes guts, regardless of the situation. Although we have never met and no doubt never will, I wish you and your partner the best for what will surely be a testing time.

Dear Lonely Wombat, regarding anonymity, it is my view that JB has used this forum for the promotion of his businesses, and it is for that reason that he has used his own name. It has nothing to do with "courage". Personally I find it pretty shameless that, while telling us how profitable life in Thailand has been, JB has been promoting here, and making money from, the kind of get rich quick schemes that prey on the stupid and the poor.

Regarding your recall of what I have posted here, I think I have posted my share of personal experiences. Feel free to use the facilities here to read some of my posts about my life both in and out of Thailand going back over thirty years. I love the country and the people, and have done since my first visit. Unfortunately too many of the guests in the country are insular arrogant bigots, who can't see a country beyond Pattaya, or an opinion beyond their own.

it does become too much at times..posting these boards. Often it depends how you feel at the time.

The people I know who have met JB say he's a pretty decent chap and none has ever complained about his business practices. Promoting his own business is hardly a crime on here..everyone's talking about different bars and so-all business. In some ways you are either promoting or knocking someone else hard work .

Sounds like it's probably not good for your health anyway JB so relax and enjoy the UK with the b/f.:salute:

I don't often agree with brad the impala, but it is obvious to me that JB promoted himself and was on an ego trip of sorts.
We all knew about his businesses, his presidency, and he opened up about his personal life and now his sorrows..

I respect JB for his decision to retire his name and frankly it was long overdue. I feel empathy for JB as he has
been dealt a raw deal and has far more serious matters to contend with than anonymous posters with agendas and
those who feel a righteous indignation or are on a crusade..

I hope others will let JB retire his handle from this forum with respect and not kick him while he is down..

You made the choice, for whatever reason; since you assumed the right to attack others here (by name when you knew it, despite the rules) with no scruples and less evidence, posting under your own name does not and should not give you any extra protection - particularly when those criticisms I have made of you were all supported by your own previous posts.

99% of this board post under a pseudonym; those who do not choose to do so for their own reasons (commercial, large egos, small imaginations, to show they are their father's son, etc). For anyone to say that it is "cowardly" to remain anonymous or "courageous" to post under your own name, irrespective of whether they know the individuals concerned or not, is completely irrational unless all those reading posts know all those making posts; if that is not the case (and it certainly is not here) then posts have to be judged on their own merits, nothing more, making for a reasonably level playing field as posts can be judged on whether they are substantiated or not rather than any other criteria.


Unfortunately this board has attracted too many trolls and too many spiteful nasty individuals with bitter agenda's of late.

If one is constantly going to be bitter, spiteful and nasty to others (farangs as individuals and Thais in general) it is hardly "unfortunate" when the same thing happens to you, to which you now cry "foul".

My agenda concerning you personally has always been very clear and it is limited to you alone, so it ends here. I do not understand the need for a "swan song." Almost a continuation by some posters of the announcement to the world that their important presence will no longer grace this stage. JB, while you've certainly offerred some very good information and advice over time, there too has been just a wee bit of over-promotion and, quite frankly, a tinge of the "I'm better/smarter than you" tone. That, of course, has attracted the mentally afflicted and the trolls. In short, while it's no big deal to me, there's the old adage of "you reap what you sow" and, while it would have been nice if we had some
consistent and reasonable moderation here (which would have ended the back and forth and the various petty feuds that some posters just can't seem to let drop), it's difficult for me to feel very sympathetic to the complaint that it's gotten just a bit too personal here for you.

Regardless, in the scheme of life, there are much more important things - your health, your future, your friends, etc. Chok dee, JB.

Some say you have promoted your self on this board. May be you have but that has been fine with me as a reader, it is interesting to know what other gays are doing in Thailand. now you know why the only others ( apart from me) to use their real names, Dame Sanitree Na Parkin & Pearl of the Orient were last sent heading north at great speed in the Dame's battered Bentley with her hysterical maid Conseula at the wheel ( the chauffeur having decamped days previously with the silver).

In the end, Homitern was the only one who would receive them for visits and even he's vanished.

I come here less and less often because all the bitchiness is not what I am interested in.
Unfortunately this sort of thing happens on almost every board at times.

There does seem to be a greater tendency for members here to attack each other, I guess that's about being bitchy and gay (almost comes with the territory).

I would use my own name, in fact I'd like to, but it is just ammunition for someone, so why bother.

... trouble is if you "give up" then they have gotten their way. Keep posting, difficult I know, and it gets to us when people are basically twats, homiterm call me one of those once - probably he forgot who discovered America.

Anyway, John keep posting - there is one way of handling situations on here and that is just ignoring them - lets face it a lot do. Another way, is if someone puts something up on here that is incorrect, just politely put that person right in one line - if you like, just say, "sorry mate, but you've got that wrong", and explain simply. It works angry vs polite gets people's backs up and you come out on top.
