Yves St Laurent dies at age 71 ...

A shining example of iconic fashion statements (pantsuits, anyone?) . . . a weird persona and appearance, reclusive & depression-prone, a glass-like fragility . . . and apparently a sad example of the old cliche that money doesn't buy happiness. Presumably gay.

I used to enjoy his run-way interviews years ago. They were nearly (though not quite) as bizarre as Karl Lagerfeld's are today.

According to the book "Yves Saint Laurent: His Life and Times," in which he discusses his sexual orientation, his collaborator, manager and director of some 40 years was also his lover, Pierre Berg├й.

I once went to his house in Marakesh..although he wasn't there and a friend was minding it..a dozen Morroccon boys in stached white jackets surrounded us holding silver trays with drinks !

I think he was a genius. My mother once lashed out on a YSL evening gown in the 60"s whne she was slim. It was stll fashionable 40 years later and put everything else to shame when younger relatives wore it . The quality is amazing..I wish I could fir into it !.

poor man. I think he suffered very bad depression for many years which put him out of action for the second half of his life.
