View Full Version : Buying furniture in BKK

My BF's new apartment is a little sparse in furniture for my taste. Definitely needs a small love seat to watch TV on comfortably. Since IKEA has not expanded to Thailand yet (LOL), where does one go to get resonably priced furniture that is not complete junk?

you could try 5th floor at MBK, there is a bit of a range of stuff there, including a shop that is even a bit IKEA-ish. I bought a few things there at what seemed a reasonable price, and have been happy with the quality

The Mahboonkrong (MBK) shopping centre has a whole floor of furniture shops.

What are you doing going to or living with your boyfriend in his Thai style apartment ??? Jesus, if you want to furnish a flat buy or rent your own and furnish it, chances are your B/F is only a temporary thing and he probably doesn't care how sparse his place is ask him if he wants furniture or hard cash, I bet the floor will still look pretty good to him as it does now . There no such thing as anything that's reasonably priced that's not junk anywhere.

I remember there was a showroom where they had some nice seats in the same building as the Chatra court (http://www.chatracourt.com/) serviced apartments.

I agree with sanook on this one.

I rode along in Pattaya with a Thai friend who was also looking for some home items and was a little surprised to see a store that so closely resembled IKEA without actually being IKEA.

I ended up buying a couple kitchen gadget things for him that I knew would come in handy and found an acceptable "host" gift for him there, as well.

Here's the link to their main site, and it lists the locations: http://www.homepro.co.th/index.asp

The tip regarding the 5th floor at MBK is a good one. I think by the way that the mention above that there is a store there which is a very good copy of an IKEA store is in reference to an INDEX Furniture outlet . . . they sure look very much the same when walking in.

INDEX Furniture stores can be found throughout Thailand ( there are lots in Bangkok: http://www.index-thai.com/intro.html click on 'Showroom' >> 'Local' ). Somewhat more expensive on average than HomePro, but not so bad. Big stores with wide variety, and in general, quite good quality stuff.

Cheers ...

Damn!

Of course... Smiles is correct on this. HomePro is the clone of Home Depot in the US (or is it the other way around?) and INDEX is the IKEA look-alike.

Of course, as the years go by there are numerous times here at home that I'm not sure where I am, but I'll blame it on the heat there that day!
