I will be returning to Thailand March 22 through April 5. I know an election has been called for April 2. I plan to be travelling with a young man I met on my last trip and we will be nowhere near his home area, which is up north, on election day. I also understand voting is compulsory in Thailand and that you must return to your home to do it. A quick search on the internet lead me to a sight that claims this is not enforced. Has anyone else confronted this during an election? How serious do the boys take this civic duty? Do I have my facts straight?

Thanks,

As Hedda says on my Blog, it's not enforced and there are no sanctions. Those who are literalists (Jane Marple aka. The False Hedda over on the Bog of Shame) don't understand Asia, where appearance is so much more important than reality (face is everything)
