It is no rumour that Helmut will be opening at Flamboyant soon, it is a fact. What will be a surprise I am sure, is the person he will be opening it with.

Didn't this open last night ?

I was on the way to a restaurant opening when my driver backed his auto into a illegally parked car owned by a demented Katooey. I've never seen such a drama in my life and such a hideous creature...the slightest scratch and she demanded 45000 baht screeching..

"you are old men and guests in our country and we can do whatever we want"..

I said ." enough of the "old" dear please and shouldn't that be paying guests?"..

anyway as we all you are on a collision course to a no win situation we had to wait 2 hours for our insurance man to turn up..she had none..what she did have was the worst handbag I've ever seen. It liked like a genuine crocodile handbag and I'm sure I could see the teeth marks were she bit it's throat to death and had then sown parts of it's leathery skin ala Silence Of the Lambs into a face for herself and to make matters worse she had a giant Kewpie doll attached to her keyring. What a creature. !

And I quite love camp creatures and swishy hips but when one has a saggy bottom and insists on swinging what look like 2 bags of collapsed rice from side to side in tight black pants- overall it was a most unattractive sight. I felt hexed for the evening so never made the restaurant. ( she even claimed she was a Doctor..and it's probably true !!)

Well I don't know about "partner" or what his arrangements with Helmut are, but I have heard on good authority that Richard, formally of Manhattan's will be running it with him.

I went to the excellent maps on http://www.gayaffairspattaya.com/maps/maps.htm but it is not shown yet as a gay eatery

Would you kindly indicate roughly the location using the map linked above

What percentage of a restaurant's diners must be shirt-lifters to qualify it as a "gay eatery"? Is there a rule? Just curious.

"I drove past Helmut's new restaurant tonight. (May 6th)...

It is now called Pagoda and I was very surprised to see it open and full.

I prefer to call it a gay restaurant. Gay eatery reminds me of my bf's arse among many others .Where did this word eatery come from? To answer your question I would say that If the owner is gay and on the premises during opening hours then its gay, that's my opinion

George where did you get the name of Richard from Manhattans its a new name to me, your not talking about the American manager Tom who was fired from there, he has left Thailand and is now working in London England and has nothing to so with Helmut's new Pagoda..

You haven't heard of Richard? http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u152/GeorgeThai/eek.gif Actually JJD, I was talking about Tom, where I got Richard from I don't know. http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u152/GeorgeThai/smile_blush.gif

If Tom has left for England, I take it his departure was pretty recent, as he was at the Pagoda with Helmut last week when finishing touches were being applied. Perhaps he was just offering some friendly advice. http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u152/GeorgeThai/shrugs.gif

From what I saw from the outside this morning, although the changes that have been made from the Flamboyant are very subtle, they look very tasteful.

As far as the food and prices go PM, I will be able to let you know, as I am eating there tomorrow evening. It will be good to see Helmut again and I wish him all the very best in his new venture.

I see that the people at gay affairs have moved quickly and now have the restaurant on their Jomtien map

http://www.gayaffairspattaya.com/maps/maps.htm

For those who are interested, it is next to the Hot Stone Grill and virtually backs onto Montys

The Pagoda had a soft opening on the 6th for drinks only, but I am reliably informed, (I hope) that it does not open until Monday the 12th. So, we will try again on Monday.

Hi everyone, well I was not reliably informed and The Pagoda actually opened last Saturday. Anyways, PM, as promised, here is my post after dining there last night.

The Pagoda was full to capacity and I am informed, reliably this time, as it has been since opening. I attended with two friends who like me, were very impressed with the food that was presented to us. I personally had smoked salmon to start with, followed by rock lobster, and finished with a Baileys and amaretto ice cream cake, which was absolutely scrumptious.

One of my friends had a Chateaubriand, which is served for two people, but he managed to get through it being a big eater and the other, had a Beef Strogonof.

The red wine that we had with dinner was also very pleasant on the palate and IMO, very reasonably priced. I considered that everything on the menu was reasonably priced and only those that protest about recent increases by the proprietors of their local noodle stools, will have cause for complaint.

I would recommend, that anyone thinking of dining at the Pagoda, make a reservation to avoid disappointment of being unable to eat inside.

Yes I believe a poster on another forum posted a very positive review of Pagoda and although he mentioned he attended with some will seasonded traveler's.( a dastardly crime and I'm not sure if they were the Chateaubriand or smoked salmon eaters) all hell broke loose and he was deemed to be either , senile or just nuts??? "scored well on the verbal diarrhea scale". accused of lying --until thankfully the moderator who has a firm policy of forbidding insults towards other posters locked the thread and offered the poster an apology, just as I have apologised to him when I have discovered I've been incorrect (unfortunately Oogleman is still using that invisible ink)

still..it makes Smiles day so all is not lost.
