Well, let's try the picture first...

Well. I'm sorry, but the board wants $50 for this.

Not quite as nice as actually seeing the picture in the post though.

That's fang? OK, report, report I want to go, it's all on you if I go or not.

Note: I don't think that lovely photo of a masculine derriere is from Fang, but you would have to check with TOQ or photobucket.

Fang is a growing city, and it's almost a happening place by now. There are loads of friendly Shan people there, land prices are low, it's cooler in the mornings and the evenings (cooler than Chiang Mai, that it), and there are EVEN bars and nightclubs. Oh, the air is cleaner, too.

I wound up staying in the hotel picked for me by my Shan friends, a place called the Viva Hotel but which used to have another name. I cleverly deduced this from seeing the old sign for the old hotel, still prominently displayed. The room was basic but clean: a nice big bed, A/C, and hot water, for a whopping 450 baht.

The festivities that night were really something, getting ready for the big Poy Sang Long parade in the morning. In particular, a guy I like very much did his super performance of what I think of as "The Bird of Paradise" dance -- very athletic, fast, and impressive.

I went home the next day: something happened that night that I really needed to think about -- something to do with romance, love, and sex. But I'm pretty sure I'll go back soon. Next trip: Wiang Pa Pao for a 14yo boy ordaining as a Real Permament Monk, and then I want to go to Wiang Haeng, and see the little Shan town north of it.

You can upload your pics to a (free) website for hosting photos: www.photobucket.com (http://www.photobucket.com) and www.photodump.com (http://www.photodump.com) are 2 good ones, then post the url to the photos and surround them with w~~.blahblahbla.com and the photo(s) will come up right in the post.
