Can anyone recommend a hotel in or near Korat. We want to stop off on our drive north next month

Check out the Sima Thani - http://www.agoda.com/asia/thailand/nakh ... hotel.html (http://www.agoda.com/asia/thailand/nakhonratchasima/sima_thani_hotel.html)

Stayed there twice. Very comfortable but a bit pricey. Got a few funny looks when I pitched up with my 23 yr old Thai b/s. They have numerous 'special offer rates' which can be as much as 50% discounted depending on how long and when you want to stay.

Alternatively if you are also going near Surin on your trip a better alternative to a Korat hotel would be the Petchkasem in Surin - http://www.sawadee.com/hotel/isan/petchkasem/. A lot cheaper (I paid 850 THB a night, low season) but very central. Definately gay tolerant. Excellent buffet breakfast included in room rate. Only drawback is the beds are a bit hard but that seems to be the norm in NE Thailand.

We are travelling from Trat to Udon. Somewhere around Korat seems sensible, but gay friendly.....

In Khorat the best deal can be got from Sri Pattana Hotel (listed in every tourist guide) : swimming pool, restaurant, big parking lot, close to the Buddy Boys Bar and to the town centre. I paid 615 THB -breakfeast included if I remember well - which is a steal.
Nothing luxurious or modern but clean and welcoming.

Last time we were in Khorat we stayed at the Royal Princess. The big draw back is it caters to bus tour groups.

If you just looking for a place to break up the trip you might want to consider a stop near Khao Yai and I would recommend Bonanza Resort (http://www.thai-tour.com/thai-tour/Northeast/Nakornratchsima/hotel/bonanza/index.htm) but don't book on the web site, call. My BF called and got about 50% discount. It's easy to find. You also might want to check and see that there's nothing like a company party being booked at the same time. They don't tell you those things when you book.

Hi globalwanderer, I usually break at Khorat more often than not, on my way up to Nong Khai, a trip I make on a regular basis and have been doing so, since returning to Pattaya from Nong Khai four years ago. I always stay at the KS Pavilion which is conveniently located close to the new Mall, and from where you can be back on route 2, within 5 minutes of leaving the hotel.

It has an open sided bar/restaurant, which is located just outside the main building, where the food is of a reasonable standard and very inexpensive, along with having a Thai band playing there every night. The cost of a double room is 700 Baht a night, with a good buffet breakfast for two included. By the way, nearly forgot to say, no problem either with your being gay friendly requirement.

Choc dee GW, hope my information above helps and wherever you end up staying, I hope that you have a great trip.

George.
