I have watched you from a far and thought I would put my foot in the water, so can you give me any advise on a single price ticket to Manchester from Bangkok in March.

Be nice if you have any Bangkok agents you know.

Thank you?

On March 3, NWA offered their "Spring Cash and Miles" deal. I got an economy seat from Houston to BKK for $778 (including tax, etc. total price) plus I gave up 20K FF miles.

This is what I usually do. Without the deal, that seat would cost over double what I paid for it. So, I do this twice a year for 2 weeks. The other time is November when they do their "Fall Cash and Miles" deal. Same same.

You can create your own cash and miles deal, however if you don't want to fly in Spring or Fall. I cough up 25K miles to get me free to a gateway city (like LAX) and look for a similar "Traveler Jim" type deal (as in above). I did this last time with Eva, who sometimes offers great deals at the last minute with their "Hot E-Fare" engine.

Anyway, if you work at it, there are still bargains to be had. You only have to get over your frustrations with booking engines that don't like the dates you select and you have to book as soon as the sale starts. It's all in knowing how and being patient.

or you could use your miles so Doom Lex can visit you in Galveston
now that the dildo law there has been repealed...

I don't get it. You say $476 for LAX BKK, but after all the fine print grand total is $858. That's from LAX and most Americans live somewhere else and they've got to get to LA. This doesn't appear to be a savings at all. Plus, you've got to factor in getting 31 to the dollar, your dollar doesn't go very far when you leave the USA. The bottom line a cheap trip turns out to be more than you had thought.

Sorry if you just don't get it! I am trying when I can to find lower cost trips.

In recent months there have been very few sales ...as sales go...
and I thought I would post the sale just in case you could benefit from it.

The example I posted...a hypothetical trip lasting one month from LAX to BKK

FARE DETAILS

ADULT 1x 561 USD (base fare)
TAXES 1x 298 USD (surcharges for fuel and taxes)

GRAND TOTAL: 858 USD

Totaled $858. after taxes and fuel surcharges are added on to the base airfare.

With the price of oil now at $104.00/barrel...
you can expect more added fuel surcharges ...in weeks to come.

...and I noted that Northwest Airlines is availale for about $60.00 more...
and you earn frequent flyer miles in their Worldperks program...
which means for each 2 or 3 round trips...you earn enough miles to get one free round trip.

As for your holidays...I guess you can stay at home...
or travel around the US at nearly $4.00 per gallon of gas...

Or go to Europe and pay 150% for each Euro...vs the US dollar...
and so on...not many good choices these days...
especially if you favor the benefits of visiting Thailand.

Up to You...

My favorite hotel here in Thailand charges me 600 baht nightly...(less than $20.00)
An American breakfast at 44 baht daily...($1.40)
Dinners set menus at 195 baht nightly...($6.00)
Haircut for 60 baht ($2.00)
Two hour Thai massage 200 baht ($6.00)
and the comforts of many Thais in waiting... :-)

Stay at home if you wish...
I prefer the Land of Smiles... Thailand.

And...may I add...where in the world...if you are making a retirement choice..
can you live on a Social security check and small pension monthly?

Surely not in the USA...unless..that is - you go to work as a
WalMart greeter to supplement your retirement income.

This is my last post.

I will not be returning to read or write anything here, whether words or pictures on the Sawatdee Gay Thailand Forum.

I have enjoyed all of your company over these past four months and have learned a lot about people and ways to enjoy Thailand. I would also like to apologize to the moderators and others if I have offended anyone or violated anything in any way. I did not intend for this to happen, I was simply ignorant about my responsibility in posting and should have read the rules and tried to respect them better. For this, I am truly sorry. I made a mistake in posting here about something that seemed too important to me at the time than the honor and dignity of the people I was affecting.

Under these circumstances, and to save myself from any further embarrassment, I would respectfully like to ask if the moderators would remove Jeab's family picture themselves, since the topic is locked and I can't delete them myself, as I have been asked to. I changed the avatar image to something else. I would also like to respectfully ask them not to delete this post.

Thank you all and take care.
