View Full Version : Wages in Thailand

February 1st, 2008, 19:45
I mentioned a topic a while ago about thai wages but today I read in the Pattaya Mail that some company was looking for ex navy personnel who were coming up to completing their tour of duty and were offering jobs to them. This is what they were offering:

"Wages ranged from 7,600 to 8,500 baht for applicants with primary school class 6 certificates, 8,500 to 10,000 baht for those with secondary school class 3 certificates, and 10,000 to 13,000 baht for applicants with vocational school certificates and higher levels of education."

I think the point is that one could make that much begging on the right street corner in most cities of the world....in NYC, London and Paris you very possibly make that much each day with any kind of an act.

Sorry, but your point is?

It should be obvious there are many of us who like to keep current on what amounts can be considered appropriate remuneration for the boys we employ.

What is not at all obvious, is the point of your post. Would you care to elucidate?

No point really, just information.

So, equiped with this 'information' we now know that an unspecified employer in Pattaya is prepared to pay ex-servicemen, with poor academic qualifications, relatively low wages to carry out unspecified duties for an unspecified duration.

Thanks for sharing!

"Private sector keen to recruit ex-Navy personnel
Pattaya Mail
Patcharapol Panrak
A number of private companies have sent representatives to the Navy Base at Sattahip looking for personnel to recruit after their military tour of duty is finished, saying that the NavyтАЩs strategy produces personnel who are self-disciplined, fit, and with a highly positive outlook on life and what they can achieve.

Navy training has helped make navy personnel sought after as employees in the private sector.

Ms Jarunan Taranon, manager of the business development section of the Lucky Dragon Co Ltd, located at the Maptaput Industrial Estate in Rayong, and Somkid Bunyarat of the Total Line Air-con Center Company, Rayong branch are two people who visited the base on January 15.
They went to Prince Chumporn Camp at Toeyngam Bay to give a presentation. Amongst the jobs on offer were assistant warehouse chief, forklift drivers, and warehouse employees. Wages ranged from 7,600 to 8,500 baht for applicants with primary school class 6 certificates, 8,500 to 10,000 baht for those with secondary school class 3 certificates, and 10,000 to 13,000 baht for applicants with vocational school certificates and higher levels of education.
A number of personnel at the base have applied in advance for jobs before their tours of duty in reserve unit Type 1 are completed.
Jarunan said there has been close cooperation recently between the Ministry of Labor, the Department for Skills Development, the Royal Thai Navy and the private sector to present more opportunities to military personnel who will soon be leaving the forces.
Those with vocational training are especially sought after, said Jarunan, but the personal qualities and values that are learned through serving in the military does overall make them very valued employees."

Very used to obeying orders? I confess to inappropriate lustful thoughts Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa!

Perhaps kquill and Marsha should pop along to the nest sale?

P.S. If pointless posts were banned from this board posting would be very sparse.

Okay, let me ask the really dumb question...the wages quoted; per week, per month, or per year?

A cashier in one of the supermarkets would be on around 6,000 - 8,000 p/m typically, working 10 hours a day for 6 days per week.[/quote:1zy47qsd]

BlondDesire, whilst typical remuneration packages for successful Thai City For-Ex Traders and top flight Thai Lawyers are off the top of the scale, you might be interested in this to understand the meaning of 'relatively low'.....

Well....I don't think 60K THB/month worth my time considering the work conditon in these thai "plants", and the commute.....gawd.

Anyway, the wage table is a good info for me. Now I know how little the average Thais make, and I should be very confident that my tip to the boys are more than sufficient. Next time, when a boy ask for more tip, I will tell him how much a Thai MD make per month.

Several years ago I was close to a uni graduate that lived in Chonburi

He travelled by bus standing all the way to Bangkok 6 days a week 4 hours + daily in the bus

His wages were 12,000 baht pm and he was happy, but lived at home

I have often chatted to the retail shops staff and find that most are very young and get less than 5000BPM

and work 28 day month, 10-12 hour days

By contrast I have known farang teaching english that make barely 35,000BPM which is the very bottom of the scale

I dont understand your point. Do you

My point is:

60K THB/month is not worth my time, because I HAVE MONEY ANYWAY!!

Those Thais or Farangs are happy with their Thai wages because THEY DON'T HAVE MONEY.

So 7000 is not "relatively low", Sen Yai! I won't even comment on your stupid comment re: "what relatively" means.

Well, I posted a table of typical Thai salaries which ranged from THB 6,000 for a housekeeper and 7,000 for a driver (which is in line with the checkout-chicks on 6-8K that you and Johnny B mention), through 20,000 for Webmasters and Translators right up to 110,000 for Managing Directors. By my reckoning, that would make a salary of THB 7,000 тАЬrelatively lowтАЭ.

I won't even comment on your stupid comment re: "what relatively" means.

Thank you. I don't think I could stand the embarrassment.
