Could anybody tell where the Embassy Hotel (Saphan Quai area, Bangkok) actually is and contact details. Is it gay friendly? Thanx.

Embassy Hotel is at the end of Soi Kawtei (Pradiphat soi 21) where most Saphan Kwai gay bars are located ; this is the first soi on the south side of Pradiphat Road when you come from Phahonyothin and it is a very narrow soi that most taxi drivers do not know - look for the 7/11 and the yellow sign with the name of the hotel.
They don't have any e-mail adress ; phone number is 2792641-2 and fax number is 2783600. No problem with guests ; they do not hold the boys ID cards so you may not like this. Mostly thai customers.

Thaiguest, FYI ... in case you decide not to stay at the Embassy, there are a number of decent 'middle' hotels in Saphan Kwai, within a few blocks of the gay sois.

The Mido Hotel, and the Karnmannee Hotel are both on Pradiphat Rd. Never stayed at the Mido, but have many times at the Karnmannee, and can recommend it as a reasonably-priced hotel (in the 1100-1500 baht range ... last stayed at in Nov/07) includes breakfast and a pool on the roof).

Karnmannee Hotel: http://www.hotelsguidethailand.com/home ... n&code=154 (http://www.hotelsguidethailand.com/home/fulldetail.php?l=en&code=154)

Mido Hotel: http://www.hotelsguidethailand.com/home ... n&code=158 (http://www.hotelsguidethailand.com/home/fulldetail.php?l=en&code=158)

Cheers ...

Thanks Smiles and llz.
Are Mido and Karnmannee gay friendly or will i have straight couples giving me sidelong looks in the lobby?
What is the large hotel (with the swinging curtains) close to Charming Bar called?
Is it gay friendly?
Thanks for you patience with one who's red with passion but so green on the subject of saphan quai.

I doubt they are gay unfriendly. Who cares about "sidelong looks"?

I can only speak for the Karnmannee: Staff are 'friendly' .... i.e. they don't give a damn what you do behind closed doors.
My criteria for a hotel are: cleanliness, price, location, reasonable but not smothering service. They can stuff any "looks".

Cheers ...

I remember standing in a queue to take a domestic flight some years ago with a short, 26-year-old Duty Mem'sahib. Because he was short he was assumed by the Westerners (of whom there were many) to be possibly under-age, and murmurs of disapproval broke out. The American couple in front of us started to converse about the sexual practices of "Asia", and the woman made some remark about marriage vows being not so important for Asian men. I said rather loudly "And a damn good thing, too" which shut everyone up. I was of course diverted, as dear Jane would have us all be
