View Full Version : Songkran bar warning

January 7th, 2008, 05:39
Those looking forward to being in Thailand for Songkran (13/15 April) be warned - the state funeral for the King's sister is on April 11, the end of the 100-day mourning; Amazing Thailand will doubtless see this as another reason to close the bars

well, it's not like there is a Royal funeral happening all the time. I think you can survive one day without going to a bar. It's one of those occasions that must be very interesting to see since it is rather rare.

Isn't 100 days an awfully long time though between her death and her funeral/cremation? I wonder exactly how this all works. Is it correct to assume she has been embalmed in some way for the meantime?

... for a dress rehearsal for You Know Who - http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2008/01 ... 061368.php (http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2008/01/07/headlines/headlines_30061368.php)

I, of course, can survive any number of nights of bar closures as my gin is delivered via an intravenous drip; however those tourists who rely on the bar scene to deliver their boys may have a different perspective. Personally I barricade myself in my apartment for the whole of Songkran (if I don't flee the country). I can always SMS any number of boys to attend on me without having to venture outdoors

The funeral does not appear to be on the 11th April.
This is from the Bangkok Post today.

Members of the public can host the daily rites, which start from April 12 and run until the royal cremation ceremony.

Anyone have any information of the exact funeral date.

If someone can give me an exact date I will try to oblige.
