It is a little difficult to say what is "nearby", as it obviously depends on where you are in Thailand!

If you are in the Pattaya area, for example, the simplest solution would be to go to any of the casinos in Cambodia, by far the largest and most Western-style being in Poipet, opposite Aranyaprathet. Visa runs by bus and minibus, as well as regular bus services, go there from Bangkok and Pattaya. The casinos at Pong Nam Lon / Daung and at Ban Haad Lek are far smaller and the games are predominantly Asian (Hi-Lo, etc); one bonus of going to Ban Haad Lek, in Trat, is that the beaches in the area and the nearby islands are excellent, rivalling the Andaman.

You will need a Cambodian visa, available at the border (valid for 30 days), as will your Thai friend if you stay overnight.

US Dollars and Thai Baht are accepted, as are most credit cards. Only buy Duty Free if you like copies.
