despite many trips to Thailand, I've never been to a Muay Thai match. I'm not even sure where they are held. I'm sure there are several venues in Bangkok and Pattaya. Any recommendations where to go?

Check out Lumpini Stadium adjacent to Lumpini Park in Bangkok. I believe this is the best known Muay Thai facility in Bangkok and where most of the televised fights take place. Info on dates and times can surely be found in the English language press.

Join the regular queue to the ticket window and avoid any other ticket sellers. Ringside seats are not horribly expensive, but you actually get a better view of the ring from 1st tier or above, and I recommend those, or cheaper.

The above is 'the real deal'...although I am sure there are smaller venues staging actual contests and not 'show-fights- for tourists.

As for Pattaya...one might be tempted to see the 'bar-fights' as staged, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are. I've doctored a few bruises that were real enough in years past.

BE AWARE.......Lumpini Stadium operates the dual pricing system. Ignore the touts but you will still pay "Farang" price at the gates.
Still in all, a worthwhile fun night out, plenty of time to bar hop after the last fight ends too!
