The hotel is tastefully decorated and all but it basically full of straight folks so you may get a few stares... It was ok for me but I would rather stay at the newly remodeled Rose Hotel which is basically across the street down a soi (room are not as nice but the pool is better). I didn't think the receptionist at Siam Heritage was friendly... things can change.

The last I heard they had eased their policy of No Joiners to a charge of 400 baht (?) a joiner. Their prices seem to have also eased a lot and they are now often cheaper than Tarntawan Place and The Tawana when booked though agencies or late stays.

I stayed at The Rose recently and was not over enamoured of the place. report at the corrected link

Regarding the Rose - I first stayed there in 1978 (my how time flies) when I was just an innocent gal on my first trip to Thailand in the days of Harrys and the Rome Bar and was blatantly picked up by a Malaysian motor mechanic on holidays from Kuala Lumpur in the Rose coffee shop. (By blatantly picked up I mean he walked over to my table with a tent in his pants after looking at me thru the window for about 15 mins -such is Thailand). He was, and still remains one of the best raunchiest fucks of my life. (All this after my first night in Thailand and 10am in the morning!)
The rooms and the lobby & coffee shop have been given a makeover as have the rooms but the bathrooms and water supply remain the same (I stayed there last year fo old times sake) - hot water supply intermittent and hard to regulate and I think there was only one english-speaking TV channel. I wouldnt bother again - plenty of other hotels in that range or slightly more expensive. Tarntawan is better for a few extra baht.
Ah - amazing Thailand, so international, and you never know what may pop its head up so to speak - my final nookies on my holiday last year were from from South Korea and UAE - so go figure!
I really cant see how the Rose would compare with Siam Heritage (going by the website)

me4thai: you brought up some old memories of the old Rome Club, Harry's Bar, Garden Bar and a few others. I kept some travel journals back in the the 76 to 78 period and am anxious to get them out of storage and see if I can find the name of some of those bars. Something seemed better in those days, probably the fact that I was a hell of a lot younger. Thanks for the memories. After that period (early 80's) I was accustomed to staying at the Suriwong, mostly because a friend of mine which whom I travelled stayed there (talk about a dive). but they were fun times. Now the Tarntawan is my choice. good location. good rooms if you get a front facing, and friendly staff.

I stayed at Siam Heritage last Sept (2006). I had a gorgeous Executive Suite that I thoroughly enjoyed. At that time they were very militant about not allowing any unregistered guests up to your room. The location is very good and your can leech off of Tarntawan's wireless internet if S.H. is still charging a ridiculous amount for their internet. the breakfast is very good. I thought the service (especially the bellhops/doorman) was very friendly.

On my trip last month (with Purple Dragon) I stayed at the Sukhothai (and was upgraded for free to an immense suite on both of my stays there) and also at the Triple Two Silom which was also very nice. It's not in the greatest location as it is down next to the Narai Hotel which is on Silom beyond the Chong Nonsi station. So walking is a bit of a hike to the gay area, but a taxi is easy. Of course going back to the hotel after an evening at the boy bars is a bit of a pain as the taxi drivers all seem to want to rip you off by charging Bt100 instead of using the meter. So I had to walk practically halfway back to the hotel to get away from those scammers and find a legit cab driver. You can walk to the Chong Nonsi SkyTrain in about 10 minutes or maybe a little bit longer depending on how long it takes you to get across Silom with all its traffic, but it's a little dark right near the station at night which was a little disconcerting.

Suggest you contact the hotel to find out their joiners policy as it seems to have changed a couple of times now.

Stayed there in 2006 and though I liked it but it was a bit pricy for me.

Rooms similar to Tarntawan and only the ones in the front or above the 5th floor have any kind of view.
Restaurant was small and only open from 7am to 9 pm. (this may have changed judging from their website)

Best part was the nice little roof garden with a pool, jacuzzi and bar. There is a spa there also.

I was with boyfriend and we didn't find the place un-friendly but still, as was said, it caters to a straight crowd - seemingly mostly German toursts.

BTW, its owned by the brother of the Rabbit Resort folks.

I stayed at The Rose for five days two weeks ago and then again Wednesday night coming back from Payatta with an early morning departing flight. I stayed there because I could not get an internet response from Tarntawan for some reason. I stayed at Tarntawan in January and loved it.

The Rose charged me 1,800 for a fairly basic hotel room but no serious complaints as my water etc was fine on the fourth floor.
New pool and deck area is superb. No one used it while I was there and it does not have a Jacuzzi which I feel is critical to go with a pool.
Never a question once about friends coming back to the room for the night. Did not stop at the desk so they had no chance to ask for ID, although I do like that policy.
Breakfast was included and quite good.
Internet sucks as its a stupid system where you buy a card with a password and its basically 300 baht for unlimited use for 24 hours but all cards cancel after 24 hours from log in whether you use or not.

The location was main attraction for me as someone on this forum told me it was very close to Tarntawan which of course it is.

No question, I prefer Tarntawan or may try the much talked about Pinnacle if I can find it.
