Much as I long to defer to Our Resident Bodhisattva George in all things Buddhist, I'm afraid he's let us down (again) by failing to report the Dalai Lama's latest musings on his own reincarnation (or not, apparently) - http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2007 ... 103104.htm (http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2007/11/28/2103104.htm)

reincarnation is used in Buddhism sort of like a "device" more than as an actual belief. It comes to Buddhism from Hindu beliefs and was historically used to explain Buddhist beliefs to Hindus. This is of course a subject of debate, and also relates to the Theravada vs Mahayana historical debates. Westerners tend to want Buddhism to act like the "normal" religions which they sort-of understand, but it doesn't.

Colonel: Your ad nauseum repetition of your snotty comments about George, Aunty, or whoever else endears you to nobody. I recognize you could care less about what others think but even juveniles eventually move on to something else. Will you?

And, for your punishment (as severe as it may be), the Dalai Lama tells me you will be reincarnated as yourself. :faroah:
