The Phuket Gazette with an update on this which seems to be at variance with procedures elsewhere.Extending 60-day tourist visas
We will be in Patong Beach for three months next year, from June 1 to August 28. We will each have a 60-day tourist visa issued in Australia and will obviously have to extend our permit to stay for a further 30 days.

Can the 30-day extension be done at the Immigration office in Patong? When can we apply for that extension? For example, do we have to wait for the last week of the 60-day visa or can we apply at any time? What documentation are we required to submit for the visa extension?

тАЬYou can apply for the extension to your permits to stay at the Patong Immigration office, but that office accepts visa-extension applications only on Mondays and Fridays from 9 am to 2 pm.

You may apply at the Phuket Provincial Immigration Office in Phuket City, where we accept visa-extension applications Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

You should apply about one week before your 60-day visas expire. We do not process visa-extension applications too early unless there is a special reason to do so, such as if the applicant has booked a hotel a long time in advance.

Each of you needs to bring your passport with two photos and you will have to pay the processing fee of 1,900 baht each.

I suggest you check with Immigration again when you arrive, as our regulations are often subjected to change without prior notice.тАЭ
