Malaysian Poice Arrest 37 Gays

Thirty-seven men, including two foreigners, are facing floggings and lengthy jail terms following a raid on what is described as a gay sex club. Police say the club was operating under the guise of being a fitness center in northern Penang island.
Acting on a tip heavily armed police raided the club and reportedly found the men engaged in various sex acts. Six unopened boxes of condoms also were found. Used condoms allegedly were found strewn about on the floor and there was a large amount of "homosexual pornography".
Sodomy is illegal in Malaysia, punishable by public whippings and up to 20 years in prison.
The accused are between the ages of 20 and 45. One of those arrested is a British national, another is a Chinese citizen.
Penang is popular with foreign tourists and is a major technology hub.
Police say they are investigating other reported gay sex clubs and more arrests could follow.
