there is this fascinating news:

"To meet the growing order book, COSCO will expand its Zhoushan Shipyard by adding one million square metres of land.

The expansion will create three new berths and three dry docks with a total of one million dwt docking capacity.

Construction of the new facilities will commence early next year and will be completed in 2010. - CNA /ls "

Foreign teachers under scrutiny after Thai paedophile arrests
Posted: 31 October 2007 1635 hrs

BANGKOK : Thai authorities are conducting background checks on more than 1,000 foreigners working in Thailand after a spate of arrests for alleged child sex abuse, a senior officer said Wednesday.

Colonel Apichat Suriboonya, of Thailand's Interpol office, said police had contacted the home countries of many of the targeted foreigners, most of whom are teachers.

"We are now scrutinizing more than 1,000 foreign teachers working in Thailand," he told AFP.

"Before, educational institutions would only look at their academic qualifications, but that is not enough," he said.

Apichat did not say how police had chosen the foreigners in question.

Thailand has become the focus of international concerns over sexual abuse of children after the arrest of Canadian teacher Christopher Paul Neil earlier this month in northeast Thailand.

His arrest followed a worldwide Interpol campaign to track down a man in 200 Internet photos abusing Asian boys.

Police said they arrested a British national on Tuesday for allegedly posting photos of naked children on the Internet.

Paul Jones, a 39-year-old teacher, was arrested at his Bangkok home by British and Thai authorities, Apichat said. Jones had admitted to sending pornographic pictures to friends in England, he said.

Last week Briton Alan Charles Mawson, 74, was charged with sexually abusing a Thai boy in the resort of Pattaya after he was found with more than 100 albums of pictures of nude children, police said.

I say get rid of all the foreign teachers and all the foreign NGOs and throw out the UN people too.

If they weren't at least closet pedos, then must be full-blown ones!

Out, out damn spot!

Lots of job opening in Bangkok for qualified persons. I almost got kidnapped last week to take a teaching job.

My employed friends tell me that they are now checking credentials carefully, faxing the university where you got your degree for confirmation, wanting to see original diplomas and getting certified letters. I wonder who is paying for all this, the employer or the future employee?

On the topic of fakes. I just renewed my Thai DL in Bangkok and there's some new procedures and a new "smart card". They take the photo now and emboss in into a credit card looking DL with holograms. There is a magnetic strip on the back. The old system of you providing the photo and laminating it yourself was just asking for fraud.

Boogyman, the same people who last had a word with Matthew Shepard are now waiting to have a few words with you.

Don't get so smug boogyman. Gays are still the most hated minority in America according to the results of a massive survey done just a few years ago at the University of Chicago.

.... Gays are still the most hated minority in America according to the results of a massive survey done just a few years ago at the University of Chicago.

A 2006 University of Minnesota study and CNN claim atheists rate below rate below Muslims, recent immigrants, gays and lesbians, and other minority groups. Such Christian tolerance!

Do you not see a difference in being a child molester and being gay? I do.
Not sure about being 'smug' but happy that child molesters will have a more difficult time
wrecking lives, yes I am.

Many keep trying to find some proof of how this case has been disposed of but to no avail.

A prominent local businessman is arrested and the outcome is still obscure. Only a statement comes from the accused but without proof. Christopher Neil also claims he is innocent. And you know what, I believe them both, our local esteemed businessman and Christopher Neil!

You look at this and tell me. OK?

Google this and you can tell me: "German bar owner arrested Pattaya"
