October 31st, 2007, 15:53
I am going to be in Bangkok the weekend of Nov 9-11, and would like to see the Bangkok Pride Parade and their booths/displays/etc. usually set up in a park for the weekend. Can anyone tell me about these, such as the parade route, the times, where, etc. I can find a lot of info on the bar sponsered parties at night, but nothing of the actual Pride itself.

Any info will be greatly appraciated.

Maybe there is something in here to enlighten you. Not sure if the parade route is shown though.

From what I hear most of the Pride Festival committee have resigned so that they don't have to take responsibility for what is likely to be the most dismal Pride in history.
There is nothing in Lumpini Park and no Parade on Silom. So much for the organizing committee's efforts.
The only people who seem to be doing anything interesting are the Soi 4 bars.

Yes, it seems that most events this year are simply 'Pride Nights" and "Pride Buffets" and "Pride 2 for 1 Booze", "Pride Karaoke" and a "Pride Mexican Dinner" . . . all at specific restaurants or bars, and hardly distinguishable from those places' regular Special Specials put on every weekend.

There's a official list of so-called pride weekend events here at http://www.pridefestival.org/?language=en On this page no mention of a parade on November 11 (when it was apparently at one time schedualed), but leafing through the website you'll find a small line in the event dates which says there will be a parade on that date ( http://www.pridefestival.org/?page_id=2&language=en ). Mai bpen rai.

Hardly an inviting lists of events which would make one want to hop an A380 from Vancouver or Prague to attend. (I'm so sick of Pride ~ anywhere).

Bangkok Pride has been on a steady downhill slide for a few years now. In house bickering, the bar owners dropped out several prides ago and the Thai organizers and the Farang organizers did not come to an agreement is what I have been hearing. Or, as one Thai on the inside put it to me this way, Farang fight Farang and Thai fight Farang and no one happy.

The last two years were dismal failure. Some of the organizers will tell you otherwise but I was there and it was pitiful.

Good. Out of sight of the public...where it belongs.

the management of Lumpini Park imposed too many conditions to make Pride in the Park viable

This is the same management that put up the sign at the pool, "No Foreigners Allowed" and take it down for the swimming suit competition and put it back after.

The Rainbow Group (one of the few Thai sponsors) held a party last year and suggested in a flyer that you should be under 35 and understand "good Thai values" to attend.
