View Full Version : Rumours that high season cant come soon enough

October 28th, 2007, 03:09
Hope its not true but rumours within the Plaza suggest that some of the recent big investors might be in financial trouble. The German empire, finding it difficult to get any sort of customer numbers , might have defaulted on recent rent payments.
Farang numbers, soon to increase as Christmas approaches, will be very welcome. At the moment, only the core long term bars seem to be drawing in the customers.
Restaurants at the higher end such as Luxor appear to be full every night as does Cuisine Au Beurre among the middle range eateries. Amongst the go go bars there are too few farangs to go around. kaos and the old Y2K are doing well but it remains to be seen whether the latest venture by MrMinou into lady boys catches on. A large number of ladyboys together just look like a bunch of girls to many. The biggest failure amongst the new bars is the bar next to Crazy Dragon. Largely empty each night, it is swift to blame outside forces for its unpopularity. A great shame after such a high investment and soon a rethink will be necessary from its owners.
One good sign for the Plaza is that the new series of sois at the end of Soi yensabai are filling with new venues and will bring more potential customers into the area. Admittedly, this area is not gay but no harm is done by having a large upsurge in new bars and restaurants.

October 28th, 2007, 03:19
Since you mentioned Cuisine Au Beurre, have you tried the nearby Petite Planete since it got a new French owner/chef and added the nice French murals on the sides (a few months or so ago)? Same low price as Cuisine and to my view (about 220 for three courses), much better. Many French speaking customers which is for sure a good sign. Both of these are in the soi to the west of Tukcom near Pattaya Tai.

They also feature excellent weekend only specials for about 300 baht: couscous royale, rabbit hunter strew with polenta, and similar, changes every week.

Also they serve a lunch menu, baguette sandwich plates (for example, merguez sausage and harrissa sauce) and also French style steak with fries.

Give this place a try, I think you will like it!

October 28th, 2007, 19:28
... always welcome. At ANY time.

But there are clear sings during the past years: the variety on offers is still growing and spreading while the demand is reclining. Therefore, same efforts at higher costs and even lesser profit. Nothing wrong with that, but only quality will survive.

I always demand the boy attends to me in a reclining position, it's much more comfortable than standing up ! :geek:

I was in Boys Town last night. The manager at Throb was telling me that they were having the worst year ever. Salaries had been cut and will be paid late.

The two owners going to the UK to avoid any situations with the staff this month, with all the cuts.

This is something that is happening more often now.

October 28th, 2007, 22:20
That bar deserves to suffer. They let their show become so boring and predictable, a total tourist trap which offered nothing new to repeat expats.

Well if thats their way of dealling with wage cuts and unrest then what a gutless pair they are. Lets pay late and cut wages but by the way were off!!
Cut your prices in low season and get more people in the door, they tend then not to buy just one drink but stay for a few.
Bingo you increase sales!!!! These people who think because they have a few bhat to invest that they are the big business barons, yeah right

Fleeing to UK isn't that cheap. The costs for the flights would probably cover the missing cash in till. ..

I think Mr K. Quill got his timing spot on.
Lazing back in Kalasin, watching the world go by . . . until the next venture ( in planning stage right now apparently ).

Info for Mr Keystone: Mr Baziel's comprehensibility factor (or lack thereof) trills/trolls back and forth like the Bangkok floodwaters. Hit a hot button with the Brugge Dude and his english becomes strangely perfect all of a sudden. But "... Huh? ..." hardly cuts it as a 'Hot Button', so you'll just have to try harder.

... put effort into it (well any business actually), every night, new conceptions, ideas, how to bring the punters in, PR, motivation of staff, to name a few, this has to be done night after night. It has to be organised, updated at appropriate times throughout the year etc etc. It's hard work. If one runs a business in such a way that they just "turn up", the business will go ker put.

October 29th, 2007, 10:26
Does "the German Empire" consist of the places Eric runs in Sunee?

The place was on the skids the moment Kevin left. I would think most of the profits have been drunk by the present (elder) owner! He seemed to me to be more interested in getting smashed out of his brain every night than trying to make the bar a decent place for visitors/guests.

October 29th, 2007, 18:26
He seemed to me to be more interested in getting smashed out of his brain every nightThat's a common problem for bar owners, and alcoholism among ex-pats, anecdotally, seems to be a risk of living here

Sorry to be so naive - I have been to Pattaya only once and that was enough for a lifetime ! So please explain me how a foreigner can own a bar which is basically illegal, promoting prostitution and human trafficking. Of course laws are flexible here...

Certainly I will not pity any bar owner (Thai or foreigner) and sincerely wish them their face to be smashed.

October 29th, 2007, 19:31
This is always the case! The guy who calls himself "begood" sincerely wishes others (Thai or foreigner) to have their faces smashed.

October 29th, 2007, 19:35
Thanks for the tip on CobraCrest! One of the blogs that a Google search turned up even has photo of Erich posted! Simply amazing!

It will be very interesting to see how this all unfolds.

It is about lawlessness, human trafficking and prostitution which too many posters on this forum seem to enjoy. I simply want to provoke and encourage people starting to think about what they are doing.

A bar owner by definition represents the evil and the lack of respect towards others. This form of modern slave trade and advantage taking from poor people is just disgusting.

The new government hopefully will accept the challenge to finally enforce the existing laws.

The morality of prostitution and "trying to get people to think" was one of his obsessions, as I recall

October 29th, 2007, 20:56
My dear "begood". We have thought long and hard about all of the virtues you mention, "lawlessness, human trafficking and prostitution" not to mention even more that you have left out, and yes, a lot of us have decided that this is exactly what we like most about life in Pattaya and wherever else we can find it!

If this leaves you aghast, then may I suggest you join a convent and refrain from returning to this board which you find so detestable.

Raksiam,

There are frequently those also who have been alleged to like them under 18 right here in Pattaya. In the headlines of the news source run by a respected Pattaya Paparazzi Volunteer Policeman (Pee-Pee V. P.) "GERMAN NATIONAL ARRESTED IN UNDER-AGE GAY SEX CASE", the article, went on to say "In the house, the police found an unidentified, young Thai man aged 17 and Mr. Peter having sex. When the police showed the warrant to the two men, Mr. Peter was really shocked." The article posted a picture of the search warrant and photos of two boys showering, presumably in Mr. Alfred's house, and some very unflattering ones of Mr. Alfred with his head wrapped in a red towel. I wish they had also shown a few pictures of Mr. Alfred having sex with the young man aged 17 as well as they claimed to have found him, since Mr. Alfred has recently stated that there was no evidence in the case but has provided no proof along the line of court documentation to prove the accuracy of his claim. I am put in the dreadfully confusing position of having to believe two apparently conflicting stories made by two respected Pattaya businessmen. But I try not let these trivial matters of human relations bother me too much!

But I certainly wish there was better documentation all around since these claims and counterclaims keep cropping up all the time and it would be nice to be done with the issue once and for all.

http://www.pattayadailynews.com/shownew ... 0000002542 (http://www.pattayadailynews.com/shownews.php?IDNEWS=0000002542)

Nevertheless it is a fact of life that lots of people like boys under 18, of that there can be no doubt, and of the fact that there are lots of boys under 18 who like older men. Sometimes I even think this to be a "national pastime" of Asia, except among the foreigners and those locals who can profit from the all hysteria being constantly stirred up.

October 29th, 2007, 21:43

October 29th, 2007, 21:49
Is that where you're getting ready to watch pigs fly Homintern?
Why those are all old fat geezers getting ready to carry away all the underage boys who sit there waiting to be swept away! Remember the Zeus and Ganymede story? It's like that only with pigs this time around.

I have been told this evening that Eric the Manager of the Clubber group in Sunny has been fired.

Its seems that the Clubber empire maybe going soon.

October 29th, 2007, 22:59
Well, that's the best piece of news I've heard all day!

Erich was a puritan "reformer" that wanted to "clean up" Sunee. It was a constant refrain with him. I hope he goes packing back to the Fatherland and takes all that Western morality he was famous for with him. I would like to see all that glitz and glamour he brought to those buildings, so out of place in Sunee, just sit and rot for a while until it regains some of its lovely old patina.

October 29th, 2007, 23:07
What an attractive man!

October 30th, 2007, 00:09
Never cared for the concept of the Clubbing group but hate to see someone who has tried so hard fail. Would like to see the Plaza taken down and restored to bars and an outdooor seating area like it once was but I know it won't happen. Comming high season someone will snap[ up the other business and probably do all right.

My contribution was to provoke and to make an unpopular statement.

There are many ways to happiness. Most importantly - and all of you will agree - is to respect and treat fairly others and ourselves. Taking advantage of other┬иpeople's poverty will eventually backfire - but of course there are also examples of love and mutual respect.

P.S. Nevertheless I will never be a friend of the human trade bar scene.....

Granted, Pattaya, like any tourist spot needs huge hordes of tourists to stay profitable but the downside of
high season is the newly enriched Russians.
Already, the blond escorts of the cigar smoking mafioso-looking characters are starting to crowd into Pattaya boy bars
and behave like invading Tatars on horseback wildly and drunkenly making their presence known.

The boy bars that feature shows will be cursed with their rowdy violent macho crap and the blond ladies
will continue to behave as badly as their pimps/managers/men.. High season is not fun but necessary! :cat:

"begood" are you a policeman, a priest or a child molester?

All three of these categories of people don't pay for anything either, but I wouldn't dream of denying them their simple pleasures!

October 30th, 2007, 13:30
Hi catawampuscat!

Yes, by all means lets get back on topic and realize who the real enemy is! The damn "straight" world in general not only the Russian version. But why do so many "gays" fall all over themselves trying to make themselves appealing to the "straight" world, even to the extent that they tout their sick lifestyle of marriage, monogamy and Puritanism to all and sundry?

October 30th, 2007, 18:12

The straight the "real enemy" - how ridiculous! You must live in another century and be at least 200 years old.

The lifestyle you describe as "sick" exists as well among gay as among straight people. I am very happy with it and respect your choices without even considering calling them sick. But certainly gay people are not above the Law and to sympathize with child molestors by calling this a "simple" pleasure is certainly inappropriate.

Gents,

I would think we could do slightly better!
If I continue having probems with the showbar side of things in Pratumnak, one never knows!! or even better, as Smiles has mentioned, go back, take my backside with me and and laze in Kalasin!

These bars are not the Glitz, glamour or fun that they once were!

Feel a bit sorry for Erich, always found him pleasant. In House problems with the Main Owner according to Erich.

All the best,

I love this forum - a lot of weird views, but always funny. Makes me also happy that I did not (yet) fall so low in my own life :-) ! However it might be dangerous to have ones brain replaced by a second set of genitals..... Also I pity these boys being your "victims" in Pattaya..... . (but perhaps they do not deserve better than just some "farang ki nok")

P.S.: Just wanted to donate, but given the hostility of all these lovely and tolerant gay people I am standing by.

October 31st, 2007, 00:25
I must say that Erich served up excellent fare in his Clubber restaurant, and just about the best in the area. I would try to remember him for this alone if weren't for his constant verbal forays into social criticism of the local area and the people who call it home.

He would flap his arms in the air as he became excited talking about the "low class" he took exception to in the Plaza in front of his business. He always wanted the Thai boys, whose country this rightly is, removed from his sight, and if he couldn't rally the police forces in his numerous public meetings in which he raged over this rather paranoid obsession, then he wanted all the businessmen to contribute to bring in their own private militia to keep the unmonied young denizens (all Thais of course) away from Sunee. He said they were responsible for his poor business profits since proper and rich "gays" would take offense or be fearful of such people.

The absurdity of this ranting was that even a Thai street urchin has more right to claim his legal presence on Thai soil than Erich himself, a farang interloper. And anyway, the kids that hang around the Plaza are little bother to anyone. In fact, their antics spice up the Plaza which is otherwise a bore when they are not around.

As much as I would like to remember him for his excellent food, it will be the memory of his desire to turn Sunee into a glitzed up mini police state that will stay with me.

Farewell, Erich Bongers!

The Clubber empire made mistakes with its investment in the Plaza. The restaurant was adequate and usually had customers. Not everybody liked the bright lighting which allowed all passersby to watch them eat every mouthful. The owner and his coterie or entourage would occupy the best outside seats each night and balefully stare at passers by. The hotel was the biggest misjudgement. Its dark windows meant that nobody could see the nicely done lobby, hence making it appear unwelcoming. At night, with the Plaza at its boisterous best it could be argued that a central hotel, right on top of things, was a good idea, but who exactly wants to walk out during the day. At that time, the Plaza looks and is filthy and it is a walk to get to the nearest baht bus route. People are not going to play top dollar for a room in such a poor area. far better to choose a gay friendly hotel with a nicer ambience to it.
I agree with some posters about the managers obsession with the need to change the area and get rid of anything untoward. He may be right but the village atmosphere, kids, food carts, and street life, not to mention free lance boys are what makes the plaza special. It was always going to be unrealistic to want private security on the Plaza entrances to stop assumed undesirables when everybody knows that these same people have rooms above the street. With regard to the kids, lots actually live in the Plaza or have parents who work there.
The upshot is that the wrong location was picked for the business plan.

October 31st, 2007, 02:06
Your analysis and description of the Clubber Empire is perfect in every detail. The lighting in the restaurant always made me feel as if I were in an operating theatre and the decor was far inferior to the lobby of the hotel which you have described perfectly and with precision.

I just wanted to write and compliment you on your statement which I find flawless. It could well serve as a model for others to follow.

It will be curious to see what happens next. I certainly hope it is a reversal of direction, more to its prior state or something closer at least to that style.

If you hear of any rumors, please share them with us here.

I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed this thread, Lester.
