Free hotspots abound. Few seem to use security on their wireless networks. The Ambiance provides free service, but you do need the password. There were several nearby networks that were completely open.

Stickman has a nice list for major venues at:

www.stickmanbangkok.com/wifi.htm (http://www.stickmanbangkok.com/wifi.htm)

The list is:

Pattaya free wi-fi spots

Misty's A Gogo

Soi Pattayaland 2, Pattaya.

The first gogo bar to have wi-fi! Misty's is in Soi Pattayaland 2 in Pattaya, the soi with all the neon. It will be interesting to see how popular it is in such an environment. Please note that the free wi-fi is ONLY available during the day time and at night it is turned off.

Lewinsky's

Soi Pattayaland 1, Pattaya.

They have free wi-fi as well as good food and all the English language newspapers. It has been described as a great place for newcomers to come to find organized golf as well.

Shenanigans

Next to Royal Garden Shopping Centre, Second Road, Pattaya.

One of my favourite bars in Thailand, and the one with the very best breakfasts - you just gotta try it!

Shamrock Bar

Pattaya Soi 13/4

There is an open hotspot in there which is a bit slow. Terry the owner does not know where the signal is coming from. Terry he decided to install his own hot spot, to be free to customers, at least initially.

Cheers Bar

Pattaya Soi 13/4

No details at the moment, other than that they have wi-fi available.

Penthouse Hotel

Pattaya Soi 13/4

There is an open wi-fi hot spot in the cafe on the ground floor of The Penthouse Hotel.
I suspect that the previously reported Hot Spot in The Shamrock Bar may be leakage from the Penthouse Hotel. Latest report is that it is free for customers of the hotel only. I guess that means there is a password needed...

Nova Park Apartments and Jameson's Bar

Soi Ar Pattaya

This is a tough one to classify as some readers have told me the connection is excellent while others have told me it is poor. Hmmm.... Well, they have a connection and not everyone's experience is the same - let's leave it at that!

Caffe Patini

Soi Nuakao (south of the market)

Great coffees, farang / Thai food, air-conditioning, ice cream, cute waitresses, and owner Paul is a gent. Open 9 AM - 9 PM daily. There are many tables as well as a pleasant terrace outdoors. This is my FAVOURITE place for breakfast in Pattaya - the English breakfast at 100 baht with great thick chunks of toast, real coffee and a damned good English style sausage is one of the highlights of a weekend in Pattaya for me!

AUA University

Pattaya North Road

They have 2 excellent open connections, both described as having great speed. The university is quite small but there are many adjacent farang businesses so perhaps the signal comes from there.

Carrefour food court

Pattaya Klang Road

There are 2 open wi-fi signals but neither has a strong signal.

Shamrock Bar

Soi Pattayaland 2.

The Shamrock now has it's own free wireless hot spot and computer - totally free of charge!

Lennie's Bar

Soi Diamond, first bar on the right when coming from Pratumnak Rd., or last bar on the left when coming from Walking Street; directly opposite Casino Club.

Apart from offering free Wireless Internet, they also have a stationary Internet PC with CD burner and Card reader available for our guests!

Ma Maison Hotel

Near soi 13, Pattaya.

Has a nice restaurant, if a non-guest wanted to sit and surf while having a drink or a meal.

Triopical Bert's

2nd road, just before Soi 6, opposite Bangkok Bank.

Nice place, no hassle.

Pattaya Garden Apartments

Pratumnak Hill, Pattaya.

They offer free wi-fi to guests. It is password protected. The download speed is 512mbps and runs 24 hrs/day. One reader said that there were great management and staff there too.

Sanya Apartments

South Pattaya Road, Pattaya.

This apartment building offers free hi-speed wi-fi. More details here.

The Clinic Sports Bar

Soi 13/1.

Just up from beach street has fast free wi-fi.

Lake Mabprachan Resort, Pattaya

70/2 Moo 6 Baan Pong, 20150, Banglamung

A new pub / resort recently opened just a bit outside Pattaya with free wi-fi for customers. http://www.mabprachanresort.com/internet.html

Secrets Bar & Hotel

Soi 14

This great new venue has free wi-fi offered for all - but you have to ask one of the staff for the password.

MP Mansion Residence

Jomtien Beach

More details can be found here about the free wi-fi offered at this hotel in Jomtien.

Salotto Cafe

Jomtien Beach Road (Below Casa Apartments)

512kps ADSL broadband wi-fi with excellent signal within cafe are. Also limited time free PC internet usage with purchases in cafe.

Bob's Burgers

3rd Road and Pattaya South

Now has free wi-fi!

FLB Nightclub

Walking Street

This Walking Street hostess bar now has free wi-fi available.

Canterbury Tales

Soi Chiyapoom (next to Crazy DaveтАЩs)

Free wireless is now available!

Welcome Plaza Hotel

Second Road

Free wi-fi is not offered by the hotel per se, but from this hotel you can get one of about three different open signals, all of which have good speed. Tested and worked from the 5th and 6th floors. (It should be noted that the number of open wi-fi signals in Pattaya is increasing greatly and simply turning on the wi-fi feature on your laptop in many hotels, especially those in areas with lots of bars and restaurants, may well see you finding a free signal).

Tim's Boutique Hotel

Second Road, Pattaya

This new hotel on Second Road right behind Tim Beer Bar has free wi-fi access. Please note, free wi-fi access is no longer available in Tim Beer Bar.

There's a site here which has a long list of wireless hotspots (I guess that means free) in Bangkok: HOTSPOTS (http://www.wi-fihotspotlist.com/search.php?street=&city=bangkok&state=&zip=&country=TH&network=&proximity=1&submit.x=80&submit.y=12)
If you look through that site you'll find a search engine in which to plug 'Pattaya' into, but it only has 3 or 4 listings. The above list of Joe's is more extensive.

Got that link from the Bangkok Bob (http://www.bangkokbob.com) website. It's a pretty useful place to cruise through . . . has a decent webpages on all things computerish.

Cheers ...

in better days she used to roam Bangkok in a chauffered Bentley ( before it was re-possesed) seeking out wireless hotspots.

Or that's what she claimed she was doing.

Yes, and so embarrassed at that is the lady, she bloody-well refuses to show up here anymore.

Thanks!

I really look forward to my stay in Pattaya.
