UK man nabbed in Thailand on sex charges

The man, identified by police as Alan Charles Mawson, of Barrow-in-Furness, was arrested in his apartment in Pattaya, a popular seaside resort about 110km south-east of Bangkok, said police Capt Sorakit Thanyasri.

The arrest came a few days after a 14-year-old Thai boy filed a police complaint that he was sexually abused by Mawson.

Police who came to arrest Mawson also allegedly found more than 100 photo albums and pornographic videos of naked boys and men in his home.

Sorakit said that based on the evidence he had seen, he believed that more than 10 boys had been sexually abused.

Mawson was charged with sexual abuse of a child under 15, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. He denied the charge, said Sorakit.

Mawson has lived in Thailand for more than two decades and owned a sauna and a property-leasing company, the officer said.

Pattaya is known for its nightlife, thriving sex industry and popularity among foreign fugitives and criminal gangs

I'm not sure it's the first that springs to mind for..."foreign fugitives".."criminal gangs"

I suppose this is something quite different from Chicago-Miami-LA-New York and the enterprises known as La Cosa Nostra or Mafia...perhaps even Sydney itself with it's ethnic based "gangs" ( the Cronulla riots a year ago spring to mind )..perhaps Manchester and it's turf wars between ethnic based gangs...the list goes on..Berlin and it's Neo Nazis... Laura Bush was named as Gang Czar 2 years ago to combat gangs in the USA ( failing miserably)

more work for the Thai Tourism Board !!!

This is kind of a long story and i really don't want to read too much into it but i think i have a right to be very confused!
roughly a week ago i met this guy and we had a cool conversation and i was pleasantly surprised when he really wanted to give me his number and ask if i'd call him. i decided to call him two days later and left a message on his voicemail. the next day he called back and we planned to get coffee two days later, when he was supposed to get off work early.
cut to a few hours before we're supposed to meet, when i get a voicemail on my cell after coming out of class saying he couldnt get off work early, that hopefully we can reschedule for later that week and he would call me later. i also missed a few things he said because of background noise but i assume it wasn't anything that important. maybe i should've waited for him to call me but i figured i'd do the polite thing and call to verify i got the change of plans. of course, i got his voicemail again so i just said it was cool and he can call me to reschedule later.
that was five days ago and i'm quite confused because isn't it a bit rude for him not to call back especially after changing the plans? or is this whole thing behind us and he might just call back whenever he feels like it? or should i risk seeming desperate and text him and ask what's up? i really wanted to hang out as friends because we had a lot in common..
any advice is appreciated, thanks!
