JAKARTA, Indonesia - A powerful earthquake shook western Indonesia for the second straight day Thursday
and triggered a tsunami alert, meteorological agencies said.

"There is a possibility of a destructive regional tsunami in the Indian Ocean," the Japan's Meteorological Agency
said in a statement, adding that the Indian Ocean coasts of Sumatra and Java and Australia's Cocos Islands
could be affected within an hour. The agency also said all coasts of India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands and
all coasts of Sri Lanka could be affected between one to three hours.

Why all these weather reports that have nothing to do with Thailand?

Why all these weather reports that have nothing to do with Thailand?

As you have noted from recent postings...

There are Sawatdee Forum readers who DO reside in the Tsunami Warning areas...
and the authorities have issued a Warning for a very wide and uncertain area...

And we have readers who may have friends in the Tsunami Warning Areas..
so they might be able to contact them and pass the warning on to them...

Just to inform and make aware of the possible dangers...
that is why I have posted these reports...

The Tsunami which swept Thailand's and other Countries shores nearly 3 years ago was horrendous...
and the lack of credible information made the loss of life great!

Sorry if you feel offended...

Planning my next trip to Phuket and it sure caught my attention when the earthquake was announced. Its only becoming clear now that the Thai coast is not threatened since the earthquakes are further south and the landmass of Sumatra is blocking any possible tsunami from hitting Thailand.

And there has been an effect in Thailand. Tried to call my boyfriend half an hour ago and got a message that "all circuts to this country are busy". Im guessing there is a lot of phone traffic between the States and that part of the world right now tying up the Pacific Cable. Finally did get thru to him after 2 more tries.
