Anyone know how to download some of the Thai Videos on Youtube?

I would think they'd be the same as say, French, YouTubes.

Did you try "search" on "Thailand".

Is there a particular Thai video that you would like us to see?

Why bother? Save the URL to your 'Favourites' and view 'em anytime you want.
'Favourites' are the new 'Hard Drive'. (Soon to be supplanted by your new ~ Bucknaway's that is ~ 'Virtual Brain': just as 'Brown' is the new 'Black' (at least it was 2 months ago) ... can't wait).

Cheers ...

Yes, look again, I already told you, use www.dlthis.com (http://www.dlthis.com)

I use http://keepvid.com/

Youtube videos are FLV files (flash video). After downloading you need a free FLV player to play them, or a multiformat player than includes FLV (eg 'VLC Player').

Try a program called Tube Hunter. you can get it at http://www.neoretix.com/. I have downloaded the Ultra version and it is great..

Tube Hunter is good for some of the "naughty-tube" sites. Many of the other options are youtube-only.

Can any of the above-mentioned applications act as a way around the entire-website-blocked-by-the-Thai-government situation here in Thailand?

i.e. Can another program be used to actually access the videos, or are they just a method of downloading the video once you've accessed the youtube.com page?

you have to first play the actually youtube vid to be able to download it.

I noticed that if you do a search on e.g. www.dailymotion.com (http://www.dailymotion.com) you will find the vids too and they are I think accessible in LOS too.

there was a thread some time ago about hmong in Laos, just do a search in dailymotion and you have a page full of vids.

August 21st, 2007, 00:13
I'm not clear on how dailymotion.com interfaces with youtube.com. I did a search for "hmong" and came up with pages and pages of videos, but can't tell if they are linked from youtube or not.

Then I searched for "china airlines naha" and came up blank: "Sorry! Nothing to see here!"

However doing a video search on Google for "china airlines naha" results in links to six youtube pages, none of which I can access in Thailand, of course.

Is dailymotion.com just another video site that happens to have a lot of the same videos as youtube.com, like the Hmong videos?

http://keepvid.com/ works by reading the youtube page URL you give it, extracting the FLV, and allowing you then to save it as a file to your PC. So if you already know the youtube page URL, I would expect that keepvid could get it for you, as the youtube access happens outside Thailand. But I am not currently in Thailand, so I can't test that theory.

If you want to watch youtube directly, you can do it via a proxy, such as TOR or its bundle with Firefox, TORPARK. It will be slow though. The main sites to download these programs will probably be blocked in Thailand, but there should be more obscure download locations that are not blocked.

I have used them in Thailand. They work.

Thanks, Hmmm, for that tip about keepvid.com -- it works like a charm -- even in Thailand.

I already use the free VLC Media Player (http://http://www.videolan.org/vlc/) as a replacement for Windows Media Player, and it plays the .flv videos from keepvid.com.

So, for all of us in Thailand, it is a way to view (and record!) youtube videos if you have the video file URL, such as http:/ /www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksMnoh43fJo. Just copy or paste it in the box at the top of the http://keepvid.com page and click on the resulting link and -- voila! -- you can save or play the .flv video on your home computer.

If you don't know the URL of the youtube video, try a Google search: type in "hmong site:youtube.com" for example, and you'll get a list of videos. If you want to exclude all the non-video links, click on the "video" link at the very top and you'll get a list of only videos.

FYI, the reason I switched to VLC Media Player as my default is that it plays most videos without having to download codecs. How many times have you been stymied with a downloaded video that Windows Media Player can't play because it can't find a codec? I've never had that problem with VLC.

keepvid.com works not just with videos from youtube. It also has a drop-down list of over 40 other video sites.

What am I missing?

I go to a number of different video and news video sites, play the movie, then take the URL of the page to one of the pages noted above (javimova or dlthis, specifically) or I use the FireFox plugin and I get NOTHING but "Error" or "invalid URL" and if I ever get beyond these errors I get nothing but a .htm file downloaded. Can anyone tell me what I am missing. Your's works?

For instance:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=8Ci5tN7h8E8& ... ed&search= (http://youtube.com/watch?v=8Ci5tN7h8E8&mode=related&search=)

in Firefox, hit button, gets me the most informative error message:

Download
[youtube.com] Error: Not a valid URL (http://youtube.com/watch?v=8Ci5tN7h8E8& ... ed&search= (http://youtube.com/watch?v=8Ci5tN7h8E8&mode=related&search=)). Visit our web to know in detail what video sites are supported.

Perhaps something is being blocked here?

Make sure you got the lastest version of VLC, its a great improvement, esp the seeking bar.

If you're using Keepvid and getting a htm file saved, you're not doing the right thing ...

1. Go to http://keepvid.com/
2. Enter the youtube URL you gave into the box at the top.
3. Click download button at right.
4. Keepvid will check the URL and soon present you with the following under the Download title bar:
"Original link: http://youtube.com/watch?v=8Ci5tN7h8E8& ... ed&search= (http://youtube.com/watch?v=8Ci5tN7h8E8&mode=related&search=)
тА║тА║ Download Link тА╣тА╣ (.flv - Flash Video)
Note: Please rename the file from get_video to get_video.flv after you have downloaded it."
5. Right click on the 'Download Link' text, select Save Link As ... (note I'm doing is in Firefox)
6. The default name in the Save As file name box is .. get_video.htm. Change this to whatever_you_want.FLV. Or you can wait until it's saved before changing the name.
7. Download should start after a short delay. If the system is busy, it may fail (rare). This FLV is around 5mb.
8. You should now have a FLV file (flash video) saved. You need an FLV player to play it, such as the one linked at the bottom of the Keepvid page, or the VLC player. These will recognize the FLV file automatically (assuming that is how you named it) and play it.

Re other methods, not sure about the Firefox plugin error you got. Maybe because you have javascript disabled ? (eg via the NoScript plugin or Torpark ?). If so, this might also affect Keepvid.

Note many of the download tools only work with certain sites. Most work with youtube, but may not work with others unless they list those sites as supported.

September 9th, 2007, 20:07
Well, I guess I didn't try KeepVid, which worked right away, thank you. But I'm still having problems with the Firefox plugin (same message) and dlThis where I am now getting a FLV link but it is a wrong link. Anyway I'm on my way to making YouTube movies of YouTube movies (on my way to an HD Camcorder by Christmas). Far out.

I'm using a rather tame Firefox 2.0.0.6 (latest). I also have Torpark 1.5.0.7, which still works. I've tried to replace it with Torpark 2.0.0.3a. If I execute 2.0.0.3a all I get is hundreds of torpark.exe applications running in the windows task manager until I manage to kill them all. Does anyone know about this problem?

Torpark has been renamed / replaced by the Zero Bank browser.
http://xerobank.com/xB_browser.html

It is not wise to add Firefox plugins to those supplied with Torpark / Zero Bank, as your security may be compromised. The specific plugins bundled with TP / ZB to enhance security are tested for leaks before release.

Plugins in general are not fool-proof, as they are developed by the user community and may not be bug-free.

Yes, yes, yes. It appears to me that the 2.0.0.3a Torpark/Firefox combination is the last freely available download and that "2.0.0.4a" is now the commercial ZeroBank browser. So get your 2.0.0.3a Torpark/Firefox combo now. If only I could get my 2.0.0.3a download to load and run properly, which I can't.

"Yes, yes, yes" ??? ... hmmm.

The ZB browser (formerly torpark) is currently at v2.0.0.6a and still free. I have download it from the URL above and used it in Thailand. Click on 'download now', not 'free trial'. The latter refers to ZB Plus which is not free.

It works for me.

It's great to know someone's all updated and that got me the determination to 'solve' this today.

I tried the 2.0.0.6a update which got past the ZB2004a "enter auth # from web site" screen but put me right back to the problem that all that happens is that executing torpark results in infinite spawnings of "torpark.exe" until I use the power off button or the system shuts down, suddenly, all on its own.

I can't believe I am the only one in the world with this problem as it seems.

For some reason I find Torpark/Firefox "Help/Check for update" is working again and I managed to re-load 1.5.0.7 (from my zip archives on CD - but I see it still available by internet search) and update 1.5.0.7 that way through about 5 steps (1.5.0.12, ... 2.0.0.3,4) up to FF 2.0.0.6 bundled with Torpark . If you're getting these same problems that I am, all I can suggest is to start at 1.5.0.7a and update through Help/Check for Update under the FireFox "Help".

I ran across this message today:

Torpark is moving.

Site Temporarily Unavailable

Hi!

The site you have requested is temporarily unavailable.

The hosting company for this site, NearlyFreeSpeech.NET, is engaged in a full-scale facilities move today, Monday, September 10, 2007. Unfortunately, that means we had to take this web site offline temporarily in order to transport it safely by truck to its new home.

Don't worry, this site will be back soon, better than ever!

In the mean time, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and hope you will check back in a couple of hours.

It appears that I am attempting to move at just the wrong time, again.
