View Full Version : Pattaya these days

I saw this in Sticky Rice online and wondered if it is true: "Few gay tourists make it to Pattaya these days. The restaurants, bars and Jomtien beach are virtually empty. The owners of all places and the beach boys complain and suffer a general lack of cash."

Its off season.
But also remember there has a been a major crackdown on visa runners living in Thailand wthout a more formal visa. This has got have big impact on Pattaya business overall.

I would modify the quote and say "Few gay tourists make it to Thailand these days." A visit to Bangkok in July revealed only a handful of customers at show time at Future Boys and Jupiter on a Friday night. Not only is Pattaya hurtin'.

In our 6 years trip to Thailand this July, we found that the gay traffic is very steep both at BKK and Pattaya. No doubt, the strong Baht has either reduced the inflow or the spending habits. However, it was a surprise to note that the Bars are ripping off the few customers who are there and it is driving them away fro the Bars. They now prefer to spend the time at the open Bars where the drinks are cheap and no Bar off fees, when they catch the boys going after work or their way to work. So, the Bar owners, mostly who are Farangs, must change their business strategy and charge less and try and keep the customers on the Bars and make them spend more with good shows and nice selection of boys. Do whatever takes to attract the customers in and keep them for long should be the strategy, rather than driving away the few who are there. It happened to us, we are big spenders, even though we found that if was obvious that we are getting ripped-off and we did not not like that so boycotted the bars and pick-up the boys from outside.

Dear stevekoolguy,

You nearly got it right,[90%] Lost it a bit at the end when you got carried away [ only my humble opinion!].

What do you mean "gay traffic is very steep" in plain English please??

I wonder if this has something to do with a decline in American faggotry visiting Thailand? Under Geroge W. Bush, idiot savant, the US dollar is almost as low as Edith's draws once she's spied a sailor. The housing market in the US is in free fall, and the subprime fiasco is just starting to bite - it's tough times in the US for many Americans. Add to that the low dollars and maybe it's just too expensive for them to come to Thailand at the moment.
