A report from Phuket in this weeks PG Weekly Report (http://www.pgreport.com/170707/170707.htm#PHUKET%20REPORTS) states that Patong Beach Bungalows has been demolished and the site is under re-development.

As many know, Patong Beach Bungalows was devastated by the Tsunami in December 04, but was re-built and re-opened in October 05, with little change from the original.

Whilst this resort was always a little tired-looking (even after the re-construction) it was my favourite place to stay in Phuket due to it's location right on the beach.

Whilst staying there over the years I had often idly dreamed of buying and re-developing the place - and now it seems some one has done just that.

Does any recent visitor or resident have any further news on the re-development? Following the Tsunami there was talk of banning construction within X-metres of the shore-line. Perhaps re-development of an existing site is exempt from this rule.

I expect a new resort hotel will be built, but I hope the developer/operator manages to make the most of this fabulous location without changing the under-stated laid-back feel of a small resort on the beach.

Patong Beach Bungalows were nice when they were new in the mid 80's. Then from opening day on they went into a state of general decline as the price increased every year until it was destroyed by the Tsunami. I stopped staying there in 1998.

The site was originally occupied by squatters in lean-to structures. There were remnants of that village behind a wall next to Patong Beach Bungalows up until the mid 90's.

Their website has disappeared too.

Fond Memories, not so long ago....

Part of the Tangmo Troupe doing their New Year special show at the bungalows.
They split the troupe into 3 groups of 10 and did the same show at 10+ hotels that night and then another at the Club.

This is a different site and the old domain was http://www.patongbeachbungalows.com/ NOTE the S plural

Therefore the old site is down.
( I have amended my bookmarks)

The new one in one of the pics shows a set of 3 level rooms from the sister Jintana Hotel.

The phone number and e-mail have not changed.
The prices have :)

Here's a photo you'll remember, Jinks. I stayed there in 2000 and loved the location. Too bad it's gone.

Yes jinksie, the 'old' site (withe the s plural) went down long ago! The 'new' site was launched to coincide with the post-Tsunami redevlopment in '05, I think.

It may be a little late to up-date your book-marks now!
