I wonder if even Donald Trump has lost that much is his time.

WEALTH RANKING / SURVEY

Thaksin is eliminated from Forbes Asia billionaires list

POST REPORTERS

Chaleo Yoovidhya, Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi and Dhanin Chearavanont are the only dollar billionaires in Thailand in the latest rankings by Forbes Asia of the country's wealthiest individuals. Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, ranked fourth in last year's poll, saw his ranking drop to 14th with a net wealth of $300 million. Forbes noted that the Assets Scrutiny Committee last month froze $1.84 billion held by Mr Thaksin and his family.

The latest rankings show that the number of billionaires in Thailand has fallen to three from 10 a decade ago.

The 40 richest Thais are worth $19 billion, down from $20 billion last year. Minimum net worth on the list has risen to $109 million from $50 million last year.

''The second annual wealth ranking for Thailand showed that despite a 16% rise in the stock market and the baht's 12% gain against the dollar, the Kingdom's tycoons were not spared the dent on their wealth from the political and economic fallout of former premier Thaksin Shinawatras ouster,'' Forbes Asia said.

The two wealthiest on the list are self-made men, with Red Bull's Chaleo Yoovidhya at an estimated net worth of $3.5 billion and whiskey tycoon Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi worth $3.3 billion. One newcomer to the list is Nishita Shah, ranked 12th and the youngest by far on the list at 27 years old. Her estimated net worth is $350 million based on her holdings of Precious Shipping, the company started by her father.

Forbes noted that a quarter of the members on the list claim their wealth from family ties.

The Chirathivat family of the Central Group claim five places on the list with combined net worth of over $860 million, while the Vacharapol family of Thai Rath holds three spots with an estimated net worth of $700 million.

.....I wonder if even Donald Trump has lost that much is his time.....

Actually yes he did. He almost went bankrupt in the last real estate bust in the early 90's. A lot of restructuring debt, a lot of arm bending and a lot of Pride Swallowing finally saved his bacon.

And anyone who thinks Taksin is down for the count ought to read about Field Marshall Phibun - the original Thai "Comeback Kid".

Thaksin has a heck of a lot more money than that!

They just need to find it.

Well the $ 300 million Forbes is crediting him with plus the $ 1.84 billion that's been frozen would put him at over $2 billion. Claiming to have much more than that might be considered a little too nouveau riche.

Even QE II is only worth about $800 million, not counting employer provided housing, etc

My heart bleeds for him!! With only $300 million, presumably US Dollars, left he must really be on the bread line.

Perhaps he is in need of a whip round a la Gay Pattayan !! :geek:

Dear x,

The sellout on the Shin deal was 2 billion dollars, [ known ] he wasn't exactly sat on his hands whilst in the PM office those few years, was he??

Anyway, for a reality check everyone, the average wage in the UK is ┬г23,000 give or take!

Live long and prosper eh!

Now who were the people complaining about the price of a beer in a go go bar????

Bill Gates, by the way, has dropped to second again, poor soul, been overtaken by a Mexican.

All the best from sunny Yorkshire in the UK.

Yes, but he's had out of pocket expenses, hasn't he?
Self-imposed/junta-imposed exile can wreak havoc to the best of budgets.

Bribes, Man City acquisition, payoffs to slum-clearing arsonists, Jatukam amulets, broadcasts to delusional Thai Rak Thai supporters ... it all adds up.
